About this Modpack

Inspired by Raspberry Flavored

Basil Flavored is intended as a difficulty increase for Minecraft, with a slow but smooth and rewarding progression system.
This modpack also features some QOL features, such as inventory sorting, better controls, better combat, zooming, easy multiplayer, and more.

This pack started out as a personal modpack for me to play with my friends, and now I'm just uploading it here to see if people like it.

So what does this modpack actually change?

  • You now start out with only 3 Hearts, but can easily gain more with Artifacts, certain Armor pieces, by gaining enough XP to fill up your secondary(Red) XP bar, or investing a point in the skill tree.
  • Wooden and Stone Tools no longer exist, instead they are replaced by Flint and Copper Tools.
  • Iron Tools and Armor are now made by upgrading Copper Tools and Armor in a Smithing Table, with a new craftable Smithing Template.
  • Normal Ores now drop Raw Ore Nuggets, Deepslate Ores drop regular Raw Ores, and sometimes Raw Ore Shards.
  • Mobs can now smell your blood, hear blocks like furnaces, or chests, have a much larger detection radius, and can jump over gaps.
  • If creepers are unable to sucessfully get close enough to you, will attempt to blow up whatever building you're hiding in, to let other monsters infiltrate. However, Creeper holes will gradually rebuild themselves.
  • Villagers behave differently now, and can reroll trades, restock Buy Trades when you do Sell Trades, and vice versa. They can even rebuild Iron Golems aswell.
  • To prevent unlucky world generation, or unlucky structure spawning issues, you can only spawn in certain biomes, and the modpack includes Nature's Compass to find desired biomes, and Explorers Compass to find desired structures.
  • You can search any recipe or item use you need with the Roughly Enough Items mod.
  • Lighting is much much darker, and changes based the moons phase.
  • Phantoms now spawn the opposite of how they do in Vanilla, the more you sleep, the more you'll attract Phantoms to come attack you.
  • There is a tab in advancements called DarkQuesting, which is basically a quest menu, you complete the advencements, and you get items and/or XP for doing so, these can speed up your progression quite a bit.
  • Also the sky looks really pretty lol

Frequently Asked Questions

Basil Flavored server crashes or won't start – what to do?

Most common causes: insufficient RAM or wrong fabric loader. Check latest.log for "OutOfMemoryError" → increase RAM to at least 8 GB. For "Mixin" or "ClassNotFoundException" errors: modpack version and loader don't match. With Mado Hosting, loader and Minecraft version are auto-configured on modpack install – preventing most startup issues.

How much RAM does a Basil Flavored server really need?

Minimum 6 GB, recommended 8 GB for stable performance. per 5 players. Important: Minecraft modpacks need more RAM than vanilla – plan extra per additional player. With Mado Hosting, you can scale RAM up live at any time without data loss (from €12/month).

Can I add custom mods to Basil Flavored without conflicts?

Yes, but check compatibility: only use mods for the same loader (fabric) and same Minecraft version (1.20.1). Common issues: ID conflicts with recipe mods and incompatible coremod versions. The Mado dashboard mod browser only shows compatible mods and warns about known conflicts.

Basil Flavored server lagging – performance tips

1) Increase RAM to 8 GB+. 2) Reduce server view-distance to 8 (server.properties). 3) Pre-generate chunks with the "Chunky" plugin. 4) Use /spark profiler to check which mods consume the most tick time. With Mado Hosting, all servers run on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores – eliminating hardware as a bottleneck.
