Better Than Nothing
An in-between challenge and fun survival experience to spice up the game.
About this Modpack

A fun survival challenge, between being fun and unforgivably painful at times.
I made this as a successor to my modpack, Vanilla: Remixed, and my not so forgiving modpack, Pain o' Plenty. I found that Pain o' Plenty was way too difficult, even for me, so I wanted to make a modpack that would be fun, but not compromise the idea of making a difficult modpack at the same time.
This modpack contains:
- Tide 2, a fishing mod.
- Improved farming with Farmer's Delight & Brewin' and Chewin', so you can contribute to alcoholism! (please don't do this in real life)
- Overhauled trees with Dynamic Trees.
- NEW BIRDS! (Foul Play Mod)
- More storage with Sophisticated Backpacks. Why isn't this already in the game?
And for the difficulty mods:
- No more sitting on stonecutters with Danger Close mod.
- NO MORE COORDINATES WITH F3. GET A COMPASS.
- Like it when Hell just spreads into your world? Same. You'll get that with the Nether Portal Spread mod.
- Contribute to your arachnophobia with the Nyf's Spiders mod!
- Completely redesign the ore progression of the game with the Overgeared mod.
- Last but not least, Tough as Nails for temperature. Because I hate you, that's why.
-SoulfulCorvus 2026

Minimum 6 GB, recommended 8 GB for stable performance. per 5 players. Important: Minecraft modpacks need more RAM than vanilla – plan extra per additional player. With Mado Hosting, you can scale RAM up live at any time without data loss (from €12/month).
Can I add custom mods to Better Than Nothing without conflicts?
Yes, but check compatibility: only use mods for the same loader (forge) and same Minecraft version (1.20.1). Common issues: ID conflicts with recipe mods and incompatible coremod versions. The Mado dashboard mod browser only shows compatible mods and warns about known conflicts.
Better Than Nothing server lagging – performance tips
1) Increase RAM to 8 GB+. 2) Reduce server view-distance to 8 (server.properties). 3) Pre-generate chunks with the "Chunky" plugin. 4) Use /spark profiler to check which mods consume the most tick time.
