About this Modpack

Intended to serve as a foundation for creating and testing new modpacks.

Clean Slate is a Forge modpack focused on stable and comprehensive optimizations across various Minecraft versions. Regularly updated to include new mods and to remove or update any that are broken.

There is essentially no added content—everything from the content to the menus remains unchanged, with no unnecessary config clutter or extra mod buttons. Most mods are clientside, though some are required on the server (or both).

The beauty of this modpacks simplicity is that any mod that isn't a dependency can be removed—and nothing breaks. The pack stays fully functional, no errors, no crashes, no issues. This can be shaped to whatever your liking is, so that your modpack can be stable and optimized yet how you want it before you even create it.

I may backport this pack to popular versions in the future (1.16.5, 1.18.2, and maybe 1.19.2) and will definetly update it to newer versions when they replace the current most popular and polished version. For now, this won't happen, because no version above 1.20.1 is currently as big as it is.

Remember! This isn't just vanilla with performance mods. This does add changes to the game—though changes that I believe are necessary for a good modpack. But again, don't worry, it does not add actual content (items, blocks, mobs, anything). check the versions' modlists to see what is included in the modpack.

This modpack doesn't upload duplicate modlist packs with just the mods updated. For a new version, there has to be added or removed mods.

Forgery Mod Notice

Spoiler

As I stated above, this modpack includes mods that not only boost performance but also add functionality. This pack features Forgery, which adds slightly gameplay-altering tweaks, parity, and balance. You can always disable it, though it is highly recommended, and I personally cannot play the game without it. Very little noticable changes were enabled with Forgery.

(It can also completely be configured; probably one of the most configurable mods to exist)

Frequently Asked Questions

Clean Slate server crashes or won't start – what to do?

Most common causes: insufficient RAM or wrong forge loader. Check latest.log for "OutOfMemoryError" → increase RAM to at least 6 GB. For "Mixin" or "ClassNotFoundException" errors: modpack version and loader don't match. With Mado Hosting, loader and Minecraft version are auto-configured on modpack install – preventing most startup issues.

How much RAM does a Clean Slate server really need?

Minimum 4 GB, recommended 6 GB for stable performance. per 5 players. Important: Minecraft modpacks need more RAM than vanilla – plan extra per additional player. With Mado Hosting, you can scale RAM up live at any time without data loss (from €8/month).

Can I add custom mods to Clean Slate without conflicts?

Yes, but check compatibility: only use mods for the same loader (forge) and same Minecraft version (1.20.1). Common issues: ID conflicts with recipe mods and incompatible coremod versions. The Mado dashboard mod browser only shows compatible mods and warns about known conflicts.

Clean Slate server lagging – performance tips

1) Increase RAM to 6 GB+. 2) Reduce server view-distance to 8 (server.properties). 3) Pre-generate chunks with the "Chunky" plugin. 4) Use /spark profiler to check which mods consume the most tick time. With Mado Hosting, all servers run on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores – eliminating hardware as a bottleneck.
