About this Modpack

Since I was a young'n I've had a problem...

Minecraft is both too easy and too hard! The buiulding and construction part of the game is really easy, especially in most modpacks. I know that's a weird critique of the game - but when you've been playing a building for ten years, it seems reasonable to want a challenge after so long. Other players and creators also see this problem and answer with the solution of making the combat more difficult and enticing.

However, it has always seemed clear to me that combat in Minecraft was never really the point and was more of a distraction from the core loop of the game. I always found it frustrating to get killed by a zombie or have my house blown up by a creeper. I find it more odd that the way to deal with this threat is torches, and not an automated or building-based combat system.

Additionally, I saw a lot of really creative survival mods that seemed really fun on their own but were frustrating to deal with when also having to fight mobs. Without mobs getting in the way, I was able to see the new fun to be had with these minor changes.

So, I made this modpack! It's a pack that really tunes down combat (making it entirely optional) and increases the difficulty of surviving in the wild and progressing through the early game. It does all of this without slowing down tool progression or making a mob leveling system; just a lot of ways to improve your comfort and ease of access.

For Tech/Magic

I Create just because I personally enjoy it. However, this modpack can be played without Create as a Vanilla+ style modpack. Or you can even add your own major tech mods like GregTech or Botania or Whatever really. Much of this modpack is focused on the early game and most big tech mods deal with mid to late game stuff. Feel free to customize!

Here's a list of the main features of the pack

  • Inventory Weight
    • Now you can actually use minecarts for - yknow - mining. Little Logistics, and Change of Cart were added to make this easier and more viable.
  • Thirst
    • To stop the player from having full health all the time at earyl game, a thirst bar is added
    • Many foods also replenish thirst, such as fruits like berries or melon.
  • Body Temperature through Cold Sweat
    • Wear the proper gear and get cozy by the campfire or take a dip in the nearest lake.
  • True Darkness and Hardcore Torches.
    • You can light up the night using a Fire Starter, made with rope from Farmer's Delight Straw.
  • A mostly untouched world.
    • Structures are now 10 times as rare, and far more expansive.
  • Entirely Optional Combat.
    • Mobs will attack you if you attack them first.
    • However, weapons and combat have not been neglected, thanks to Combat Nouveau, Iron's Spells, and Mob AI Tweaks.
  • Crafted Minimap
    • it can be made by crafting a map atlas, which can now be made without a compass.

When the modpack fully releases there will be a tutorial that teaches the player how to deal with all the new challenges introduced by the modpack.

Frequently Asked Questions

Create Hardcore Hazards server crashes or won't start – what to do?

Most common causes: insufficient RAM or wrong forge loader. Check latest.log for "OutOfMemoryError" → increase RAM to at least 10 GB. For "Mixin" or "ClassNotFoundException" errors: modpack version and loader don't match. With Mado Hosting, loader and Minecraft version are auto-configured on modpack install – preventing most startup issues.

How much RAM does a Create Hardcore Hazards server really need?

Minimum 6 GB, recommended 10 GB for stable performance. per 4 players. Important: Minecraft modpacks need more RAM than vanilla – plan extra per additional player. With Mado Hosting, you can scale RAM up live at any time without data loss (from €12/month).

Can I add custom mods to Create Hardcore Hazards without conflicts?

Yes, but check compatibility: only use mods for the same loader (forge) and same Minecraft version (1.20.1). Common issues: ID conflicts with recipe mods and incompatible coremod versions. The Mado dashboard mod browser only shows compatible mods and warns about known conflicts.

Create Hardcore Hazards server lagging – performance tips

1) Increase RAM to 10 GB+. 2) Reduce server view-distance to 8 (server.properties). 3) Pre-generate chunks with the "Chunky" plugin. 4) Use /spark profiler to check which mods consume the most tick time. With Mado Hosting, all servers run on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores – eliminating hardware as a bottleneck.
