🧪 System Requirements
Based on real-world testing and data from the Distant Horizons 2.3 update and top packs
| RAM Allocated | Recommended Usage |
|---|---|
| 2GB | ❌ Not Supported – Will crash |
| 4GB | ⚠️ Minimum – Light gameplay only (<256 chunks) |
| 6GB | ✅ Recommended – Ideal for 256–320 chunk LOD |
| 10GB+ | 🧪 Heavy – Only for advanced worldgen combos |
- Keep vanilla render distance under 16 for best results
- Crank “CPU Load” to
I Paid For The Whole CPUin DH config when pre-generating LODs - Use AFK chunk generation mode to pre-load far terrain, then drop to low-impact mode for normal play
🌍 Terrain Mods You’ll Love
Preselected for stunning large-scale visuals with Distant Horizons compatibility
- Tectonic – Big mountains, smooth valleys, and smart biome blending
- Lithostitched + Continents + Terralith-style patches – Natural transitions with a performance edge
- William Wyther's (optional) – Drop-in for beautiful world aesthetics if desired
🧠 Tips & Fixes from Experience
- Pregeneration takes time. LOD chunks are lower quality but still CPU-heavy.
- Batching errors in console? Safe to ignore – they’re just loading timeouts.
- Don’t overload chunks. Anything beyond 320 LOD chunks can cause major lag or RAM issues.
- Use “Minimal” or “Low Impact” mode after pregeneration to avoid stutter.

Frequently Asked Questions
Distant New Dawn server crashes or won't start – what to do?
Most common causes: insufficient RAM or wrong fabric loader. Check latest.log for "OutOfMemoryError" → increase RAM to at least 8 GB. For "Mixin" or "ClassNotFoundException" errors: modpack version and loader don't match. With Mado Hosting, loader and Minecraft version are auto-configured on modpack install – preventing most startup issues.
How much RAM does a Distant New Dawn server really need?
Minimum 6 GB, recommended 8 GB for stable performance. per 5 players. Important: Minecraft modpacks need more RAM than vanilla – plan extra per additional player. With Mado Hosting, you can scale RAM up live at any time without data loss (from €12/month).
Can I add custom mods to Distant New Dawn without conflicts?
Yes, but check compatibility: only use mods for the same loader (fabric) and same Minecraft version (1.21.10). Common issues: ID conflicts with recipe mods and incompatible coremod versions. The Mado dashboard mod browser only shows compatible mods and warns about known conflicts.
Distant New Dawn server lagging – performance tips
1) Increase RAM to 8 GB+. 2) Reduce server view-distance to 8 (server.properties). 3) Pre-generate chunks with the "Chunky" plugin. 4) Use /spark profiler to check which mods consume the most tick time. With Mado Hosting, all servers run on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores – eliminating hardware as a bottleneck.
