About this Modpack
This is a difficulty and horror based modpack requested by Dusty. He wanted me to make a really difficult pack so here it is. Hope it was worth it Dusty!
This pack is designed to be played in Hardcore Multiplayer. Because of this certain mods are included:
- Simple Voice Chat
- Global GameRules
- Hardcore Revival
- Totem of Revival
- Localized Chat
- Dungeon Difficulty
- Starter Kit
These mods accomplish a few things. Allow for difficulty to scale with player count, make players spawn with one totem, limit chatting, hide death messages, add a KO state before death, and a grave which can revive players with a totem.
Some of these features were inspired by Rekrap's No Armor Hardcore Series so go check him out!
The shaders used are Insanity Shaders and for the game to be played as intended they must stay on.
Mobs are very difficult in this modpack. Mods included to accomplish this include Enhanced Ai, Improved Mobs, Totally Enough Pain, Horde Nights, Dungeon Difficulty, Skeleton Horse Spawn, Zombie Horse Spawn, Difficult Spawners, Infernal Mobs, Majrusz's Progressive Difficulty, and Nyf's Spiders.
Alongside making normal mobs harder I have included some new entities that will disturb you, attack you, and sometimes scare you. The mods included are:
- The Knocker
- Doctor Who-Weeping Angels
- The Graveyard
- Upgrade Aquatic
- From the Fog
- The End of Herobrine
- Mutant Monsters
With that being said, there are a few rules for playing this pack:
* always play with shaders
* always play with headphones and voice chat on
* and don't talk to anybody without voice chat (no Discord or other voice calling)

Frequently Asked Questions
Dusty Difficulty server crashes or won't start – what to do?
Most common causes: insufficient RAM or wrong forge loader. Check latest.log for "OutOfMemoryError" → increase RAM to at least 8 GB. For "Mixin" or "ClassNotFoundException" errors: modpack version and loader don't match. With Mado Hosting, loader and Minecraft version are auto-configured on modpack install – preventing most startup issues.
How much RAM does a Dusty Difficulty server really need?
Minimum 6 GB, recommended 8 GB for stable performance. per 5 players. Important: Minecraft modpacks need more RAM than vanilla – plan extra per additional player. With Mado Hosting, you can scale RAM up live at any time without data loss (from €12/month).
Can I add custom mods to Dusty Difficulty without conflicts?
Yes, but check compatibility: only use mods for the same loader (forge) and same Minecraft version (1.20.1). Common issues: ID conflicts with recipe mods and incompatible coremod versions. The Mado dashboard mod browser only shows compatible mods and warns about known conflicts.
Dusty Difficulty server lagging – performance tips
1) Increase RAM to 8 GB+. 2) Reduce server view-distance to 8 (server.properties). 3) Pre-generate chunks with the "Chunky" plugin. 4) Use /spark profiler to check which mods consume the most tick time. With Mado Hosting, all servers run on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores – eliminating hardware as a bottleneck.
