About this Modpack

Introduction

A horror modpack that overhauls the vanilla game to be scarier & more difficult - mobs are more dangerous, nights are unrelenting, theirs terrifying monsters lurking behind the fog, in the depths of caves - waiting for you... & myserties to unravel

Mods

Performance: Uses the 'Optimalsation/Optimax' modpack as a baseline which is the fastest performing modpack avalible for Minecraft!

QoL: Mods that make minecraft more user friendly, accessible and enjoyable like more intuitive keybinds, mouse handling, & much more

Exploration: Mods that tweak existing terrain, biomes, etc - along with mods that add new structures to the game. This makes exploration way more interesting

Mobs: 1) Mobs are now stronger, with either special effects or dealing more damage!
2) A entity that lurks just behind the fog, stalking you... haunting your world with random mysterious changes. Even if you don't see him, he will always have his eye on you...
3) A very powerful creature lurks in depths of caves, they're fast and powerful, do not engage. Mining is extremely dangerous, always be on alert! Your life depends on it

Full vs Lite

  • Expanded: Includes more mods making the game less vanilla-friendly, & is also less performance

  • Lite: Closer to vanilla Minecraft & more peformance friendly

Recommendations

  • Keep your render distance low (4-8 chunks) so seeing off in the distance is harder, making the fog denser and adding a sense of mystery

  • Enable all the resource packs the mod comes with and the HorrorBSL shader

Disclaimer

I include my own "Options.txt" file in order to ensure the resource packs are applied by default and in the correct order. However this file also copies all my other settings from FOV, keybinds, sensitivity, etc, so be sure to tweak things to your own preference because some of them will be different from vanilla

Frequently Asked Questions

Horrorimining server crashes or won't start – what to do?

Most common causes: insufficient RAM or wrong forge loader. Check latest.log for "OutOfMemoryError" → increase RAM to at least 8 GB. For "Mixin" or "ClassNotFoundException" errors: modpack version and loader don't match. With Mado Hosting, loader and Minecraft version are auto-configured on modpack install – preventing most startup issues.

How much RAM does a Horrorimining server really need?

Minimum 6 GB, recommended 8 GB for stable performance. per 5 players. Important: Minecraft modpacks need more RAM than vanilla – plan extra per additional player. With Mado Hosting, you can scale RAM up live at any time without data loss (from €12/month).

Can I add custom mods to Horrorimining without conflicts?

Yes, but check compatibility: only use mods for the same loader (forge) and same Minecraft version (1.20.1). Common issues: ID conflicts with recipe mods and incompatible coremod versions. The Mado dashboard mod browser only shows compatible mods and warns about known conflicts.

Horrorimining server lagging – performance tips

1) Increase RAM to 8 GB+. 2) Reduce server view-distance to 8 (server.properties). 3) Pre-generate chunks with the "Chunky" plugin. 4) Use /spark profiler to check which mods consume the most tick time. With Mado Hosting, all servers run on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores – eliminating hardware as a bottleneck.
