About this Modpack

lestx's Barely Vanilla -- Barely Changed. Sharply Polished.

lestx's Barely Vanilla keeps Minecraft feeling like Minecraft. The goal is simple: preserve vanilla mechanics and balance while giving players a slightly cleaner look, smoother performance, and a handful of non-intrusive quality-of-life improvements. By design, this pack is conservative, with mostly clientside visual/animation/resource tweaks, QoL ergonomics, and performance tooling. This pack is intended to be installed on both client and server for the best, most consistent experience because a few bundled mods provide additional behavior when installed server-side.

What this pack does

  • Keeps vanilla gameplay intact: no added biomes, major systems, or balance changes.

  • Subtly improves visuals: Clean item and entity textures, gentle glows, nicer leaves and armor trim visuals, improved animations — all while retaining the vanilla art style.

  • Makes play more ergonomic, including useful conveniences such as quick recipe lookup, smoother inventory handling, right-click crop harvest, centered crosshair, and clearer tooltips.

  • Boosts performance. Modern Fabric optimizers reduce the rendering/tick load and memory pressure to make it smoother on low–mid hardware.

  • Client & server aware. Some features are purely clientside (visuals/animations); others require server presence for correct behaviour — so install on both sides where possible.

Key highlights

  • Performance gains from Sodium, Lithium, FerriteCore, Entity Culling, Dynamic FPS, and several targeted optimizers.

  • OptiFine-parity presentation - custom entity models, custom item textures, conditional textures, animation reworks - implemented via Fabric mods so resourcepacks can do modern visual tricks without OptiFine.

  • QoL that doesn't change progression: JEI, MouseTweaks, RightClickHarvest, InvMove, ToolTipFix, and related small helpers.

  • Polished: Glowing Nether portals, item enchantment glints, armor trim material, fancy leaves, light dynamics.

Who this is for

  • Players who want a vanilla experience but with better FPS and tasteful visual polish.

  • Hosts looking for a lightweight, consistent visual uplift for players, without changing server rules.

  • People who prefer conservative packs — minimal gameplay risk, maximal playability.

Frequently Asked Questions

lestx's Barely Vanilla server crashes or won't start – what to do?

Most common causes: insufficient RAM or wrong fabric loader. Check latest.log for "OutOfMemoryError" → increase RAM to at least 8 GB. For "Mixin" or "ClassNotFoundException" errors: modpack version and loader don't match. With Mado Hosting, loader and Minecraft version are auto-configured on modpack install – preventing most startup issues.

How much RAM does a lestx's Barely Vanilla server really need?

Minimum 6 GB, recommended 8 GB for stable performance. per 5 players. Important: Minecraft modpacks need more RAM than vanilla – plan extra per additional player. With Mado Hosting, you can scale RAM up live at any time without data loss (from €12/month).

Can I add custom mods to lestx's Barely Vanilla without conflicts?

Yes, but check compatibility: only use mods for the same loader (fabric) and same Minecraft version (1.21.11). Common issues: ID conflicts with recipe mods and incompatible coremod versions. The Mado dashboard mod browser only shows compatible mods and warns about known conflicts.

lestx's Barely Vanilla server lagging – performance tips

1) Increase RAM to 8 GB+. 2) Reduce server view-distance to 8 (server.properties). 3) Pre-generate chunks with the "Chunky" plugin. 4) Use /spark profiler to check which mods consume the most tick time. With Mado Hosting, all servers run on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores – eliminating hardware as a bottleneck.
