About this Modpack

Project GS Ball is a survival-oriented modpack designed for multiplayer. It is designed primarily around the Cobblemon mod, and follows a "Chocolate and Vanilla Swirl" design philosophy; not too much chocolate, but not too much vanilla either.

It is entirely possible to play this as a mostly "vanilla" Cobblemon experience and interact with few if any of the other mods in the pack, but if you do want a little more flavour, the modpack features a whole host of sidemods and addons for Cobblemon, adding features such as pokemon riding, TMs, mega evolution, Z-Moves, contests, legendary pokemon, and more.

If you want to add some sprinkles, we feature a small collection of vanilla-adjascent mods that we feel play really well with a multiplayer Cobblemon experience as well, such as Exposure, Immersive Melodies, and the Joy of Painting.

As a cherry on top, we do also feature two big automation mods; Create and Applied Energistics 2, as well as a small collection of addons for each. We mostly use them for trains and storage systems on my server though to be honest.

The pack also features several QoL mods to massively improve your modded experience, including Inventory Tabs, Open Parties & Claims, Tinkerer's Smithing, and Mouse Wheelie, as well as a whole host of incredible cosmetic mods to add flare to your character and your world, like Ears, 3D Skin Layers, Fabric Tailor, Distant Horizons, and Iris!

The modpack is stable...Ish. This version of the modpack uses Essential for P2P drop-in multiplayer, and Essential can be somewhat tempermental. We've noticed some crashing when players leave games, and older machines will struggle to host multiple other players without some config and option changes.

Future versions of the modpack will not include Essential. However, this is still an experience intended and built for multiplayer. Users are encouraged to explore server self-hosting options or look into Modrinth's hosting tools in preparation for the switch, planned for sometime in January.

This modpack is built upon years and years of experience modding minecraft, but I've always been a Forge guy. Fabric's still pretty new to me, and I've still got a lot of config and KubeJS work to do, not to mention a few mods I might've forgotten to add, so pardon my dust in these early days. The modpack will improve, as will its Modrinth page. :)

Project GS ball is currently undergoing a total rebuild for 1.21.1 and Cobblemon 1.6.1! This rebuild has taken me far, FAR longer than I anticipated, but it's finally coming along at a good pace!
Kinda sucks that I built a modpack for 1.5 just in time for 1.6 to drop. :P Sucks that they moved versions too, been spending most of this time just waiting on updates for critical addons and other important mods. Anyway, that's enough rambling from me. Join the Discord for more details and updates!

Frequently Asked Questions

Project GS Ball server crashes or won't start – what to do?

Most common causes: insufficient RAM or wrong fabric loader. Check latest.log for "OutOfMemoryError" → increase RAM to at least 8 GB. For "Mixin" or "ClassNotFoundException" errors: modpack version and loader don't match. With Mado Hosting, loader and Minecraft version are auto-configured on modpack install – preventing most startup issues.

How much RAM does a Project GS Ball server really need?

Minimum 6 GB, recommended 8 GB for stable performance. per 5 players. Important: Minecraft modpacks need more RAM than vanilla – plan extra per additional player. With Mado Hosting, you can scale RAM up live at any time without data loss (from €12/month).

Can I add custom mods to Project GS Ball without conflicts?

Yes, but check compatibility: only use mods for the same loader (fabric) and same Minecraft version (1.21.1). Common issues: ID conflicts with recipe mods and incompatible coremod versions. The Mado dashboard mod browser only shows compatible mods and warns about known conflicts.

Project GS Ball server lagging – performance tips

1) Increase RAM to 8 GB+. 2) Reduce server view-distance to 8 (server.properties). 3) Pre-generate chunks with the "Chunky" plugin. 4) Use /spark profiler to check which mods consume the most tick time. With Mado Hosting, all servers run on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores – eliminating hardware as a bottleneck.
