About this Modpack

WARNING: This modpack requires Fabric to work correctly.

Have ever you wondered how Minecraft could be if some of Mojang/Microsofts' mistakes were actually fixed?

Welcome to "The Not-So-Controversial Update!"

This Modpack allows to fix some controversial errors and misunderstood updates.

For example:

  • Now there's the old atmosphere and beta lightning! (you have to toggle them in the NostalgicTweaks Mod Settings)

  • The combat system is basically the combat test snapshot 8c, which tends to mix the 1.8 and 1.9 combat system!

  • Optimization with Sodium and Lithium (no Optifine for now, I'm sorry)

  • Parity between Java and Bedrock Edition!

  • You can toggle some of the Nostalgic Tweaks, if you want (I suggest to disable all the "Server side", so you won't have bugs during fights nor vanilla things)

  • There are most of cancelled mobs, like the Copper Golem and the Iceologer!

  • If you are nostalgic about the old world generation, you can generate a world with all the older world generations!

  • You can now use, craft and find bundles in dungeons!

  • Lightweight!

  • Also, faster minecarts.

  • Also new and revamped biomes.

  • Warden is a bit more OP.

  • Oh, vertical slabs. Yeah, I mean, now they exist, so...

This Modpack should work pretty well in the client side and server side (except that you have to configure some mods, if you want to)

That being said, have fun!

Frequently Asked Questions

The Not-So-Controversial Update server crashes or won't start – what to do?

Most common causes: insufficient RAM or wrong fabric loader. Check latest.log for "OutOfMemoryError" → increase RAM to at least 8 GB. For "Mixin" or "ClassNotFoundException" errors: modpack version and loader don't match. With Mado Hosting, loader and Minecraft version are auto-configured on modpack install – preventing most startup issues.

How much RAM does a The Not-So-Controversial Update server really need?

Minimum 6 GB, recommended 8 GB for stable performance. per 5 players. Important: Minecraft modpacks need more RAM than vanilla – plan extra per additional player. With Mado Hosting, you can scale RAM up live at any time without data loss (from €12/month).

Can I add custom mods to The Not-So-Controversial Update without conflicts?

Yes, but check compatibility: only use mods for the same loader (fabric) and same Minecraft version (1.20.1). Common issues: ID conflicts with recipe mods and incompatible coremod versions. The Mado dashboard mod browser only shows compatible mods and warns about known conflicts.

The Not-So-Controversial Update server lagging – performance tips

1) Increase RAM to 8 GB+. 2) Reduce server view-distance to 8 (server.properties). 3) Pre-generate chunks with the "Chunky" plugin. 4) Use /spark profiler to check which mods consume the most tick time. With Mado Hosting, all servers run on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores – eliminating hardware as a bottleneck.
