About this Modpack
Overview
Trial by Farmer is a modpack that combines cottagecore aesthetics, farming, and peaceful building with the danger and progression styling of more survival-oriented packs. It offers a weak-feeling early-game and mid-game experience, but nothing feels unfair and with sufficient preparation and survival skills you'll find yourself rising above the horrors of the dark.
In combination with Minecraft's data pack system, over 80 CraftTweaker script files were written to fully integrate mods with each other and make sure they follow the progression path properly. Extensive care was taken to make sure nothing feels unfinished or inconsistent.
Key Features
A long, thorough progression path using mechanical technology (Better with Time) heavily inspired by Valheim, Rebirth of the Night and Vintage Story
A different world generator (Expanded Ecosphere), including features from the Spring to Life update and new mobs (LivingThings, Spring to Life Backport, Wildernature)
A realistic skybox in both the Overworld and Paradise Lost (Astrocraft) which syncs with the in-game day and season
Beautiful atmospherics (Better Clouds, Dynamic Surroundings, Fog, Mai)
ReactiveMusic is included to enhance the fantasy vibe (the custom songpack for this pack can be found here)
Survival Elements
Tougher, smarter mobs (Nox: Renoxed, Zombie Awareness) that break blocks and will stop at nothing to reach you
Horde nights every in-game week to test your skills (UndeadNights)
A season system (Fabric Seasons) which affects crop growth, client-side cloud density and weather event frequencies, with day/night lengths changing depending on the current time of year
Tons of new crops (Farmer's Delight, Flora Delight, Paradise Delight) with rebalanced hunger values that incentivize making more complicated dishes
A dangerous mining dimension: The Deep Underground, with structures exclusive to the pack
Cottagecore Elements
Massive amounts of block variants for building and decorating (Every Compat). Make your base cozy!
Cobblemon roaming every dimension that can be battled and caught
Many new foods, dishes and drinks to prepare (some of which can manipulate cobblemon spawns)
Plenty of options for quick travel (Hang Glider, Horseshoes, Immersive Aircraft)
Compatibility/Parity Features
EMI Biome icons for almost every single biome (over 180 custom-made ones)
Progression is designed to slowly open up more features and options
Many structures (both vanilla and modded) incorporate blocks from other mods
Block, item, biome and crafting sound tags are all properly defined, including for mods that do not natively have them
Modded world generation is not confined to vanilla biomes
Notes
Trial by Farmer requires 3GB of RAM or more to run properly, but I recommend 4GB or 5GB for the best experience.

Frequently Asked Questions
Trial by Farmer server crashes or won't start – what to do?
Most common causes: insufficient RAM or wrong fabric loader. Check latest.log for "OutOfMemoryError" → increase RAM to at least 8 GB. For "Mixin" or "ClassNotFoundException" errors: modpack version and loader don't match. With Mado Hosting, loader and Minecraft version are auto-configured on modpack install – preventing most startup issues.
How much RAM does a Trial by Farmer server really need?
Minimum 6 GB, recommended 8 GB for stable performance. per 5 players. Important: Minecraft modpacks need more RAM than vanilla – plan extra per additional player. With Mado Hosting, you can scale RAM up live at any time without data loss (from €12/month).
Can I add custom mods to Trial by Farmer without conflicts?
Yes, but check compatibility: only use mods for the same loader (fabric) and same Minecraft version (1.21.1). Common issues: ID conflicts with recipe mods and incompatible coremod versions. The Mado dashboard mod browser only shows compatible mods and warns about known conflicts.
Trial by Farmer server lagging – performance tips
1) Increase RAM to 8 GB+. 2) Reduce server view-distance to 8 (server.properties). 3) Pre-generate chunks with the "Chunky" plugin. 4) Use /spark profiler to check which mods consume the most tick time. With Mado Hosting, all servers run on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores – eliminating hardware as a bottleneck.
