About this Mod
Rough Start overhauls the early and mid game progression by making it take slightly longer.
Guide to getting started!
- Break logs to get a crafting table
- Find a flint patch or break gravel
- Use the obtained flint to craft your first tools
- Mine coal and make a campfire
- Mine cobblestone and smelt it on the campfire
- Craft a furnace with the stone
- Obtain copper and smelt it into ingots
- Craft copper gear
- Mine Iron and create shears and tools
- Use shears to get wool to craft a bed

Will Rough Start be updated to 1.21.4 or above?
- Short answer: Probably not
- Long anser: Due to recend underlying changes to minecrafts engine, that has made some features impossible to update without making it incompatible with almost every other mod in existence. Due to this reason Rough Start will remain 1.20.1 exclusive for now.

How to Install Rough Start on Your Server
Order Server
Order a Minecraft Java server with at least 4 GB RAM (6 GB recommended).
Set fabric Loader
In the panel under "Egg", select the fabric loader and matching Minecraft version (1.20.6).
Install Mod
Open the mod browser in the dashboard and search for "Rough Start". Click "Install" – done! Alternatively, upload the .jar via SFTP to the /mods folder.

Rough Start server crashes on startup – what to do?
Most common cause: wrong fabric version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 4 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.20.6). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.
Is Rough Start compatible with fabric?
Rough Start officially supports fabric for Minecraft 1.20.6, 1.20.5, 1.20.4. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.
Server lagging with Rough Start – how to optimize performance?
Recommended RAM: 6 GB (per 5 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Rough Start consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge.
