About Me

This small datapack adds a flashlight to your game. This Flashlight is an Animated Item that players can download and use to improve their Minecraft Gameplay Experience. Players can craft this Flashlight using The Recipe or be Given the flashlight by running the following function:

/function weapons:flashlight/give

How to Use

When you download the .zip file, put it in your Resourcepacks as well as Datapacks folder of the world. Then, once you are in the world, run a /reload command. The datapack doesn't have a special load message, so you won't get a particular "[Animated Flashlight] Loaded" type message, but the reload should've worked nonetheless.

Note: (for the datapack nerds and creative mode builders only)
  • The datapack runs a /fill command. This means that any blockstates set via building mods like Axiom or Worldedit will be reset. This also means that any Light Blocks that are placed by the builders will be reset by the flashlight.

Frequently Asked Questions

flashlight server crashes on startup – what to do?

Most common cause: wrong datapack version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.21.9). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Is flashlight compatible with datapack and fabric and forge and neoforge and quilt?

flashlight officially supports datapack, fabric, forge, neoforge, quilt for Minecraft 1.21.9, 1.21.8, 1.21.7. Note: Forge and Fabric mods are NOT cross-compatible – pick one loader and stick with it. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.

Server lagging with flashlight – how to optimize performance?

Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if flashlight consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
