For Minecraft 1.20.1 (Forge)

Pet Bunny is a bunny-themed companion mod. You can tame bunnies, bring them on adventures, let them stay at home, or find different bunny types in the wild.

Version 1.4.0 is a major system update compared with 1.3.2. This update adds the Starbond progression system, new bunny UI, bunny hutches, bunny toilets, Bunny Poop Cleaners, improved teleport and recall behavior, new commands, and many personality and behavior changes.

Bunnies are no longer just simple pets. They now grow over time, gain stronger personality abilities, use new companion facilities, and become more meaningful long-term partners.

Important Notice

Bunny poop and urine features are disabled by default.

To enable them:

/petrabbit urine true

To disable them:

/petrabbit urine false

Save Compatibility

Version 1.4.0 will migrate old 1.3.2 saves automatically.

Because 1.4.0 adds many new systems, old bunnies will start Starbond from Lv.1. Other existing bunny data will be preserved as much as possible. The priority is compatibility and preventing save errors.

Overview

Pet Bunny lets you tame bunnies as loyal companions. Each pet bunny has its own personality, matching appearance, special ability, Starbond level, and long-term growth.

Bunnies can:

  • Follow you
  • Stay at home
  • Wander freely
  • Sleep
  • Breed
  • Wear armor
  • Use bunny backpacks
  • Gain Starbond and level up
  • Use bunny hutches
  • Interact with bunny toilets
  • Help with combat, treasure, farming, or support effects depending on personality
  • Shed bunny fur naturally over time
  • Use optional bunny urine and bunny poop features if enabled

new bunnies

Core Features

Taming System

  • Tame wild bunnies with Dandelions or Carrots
  • Taming success rate:
    • Dandelion: 30%
    • Carrot: 30%
  • Switch between three modes after taming:
    • Stay
    • Follow
    • Wander / Free Roaming
  • Tamed bunnies can be healed with Carrots or Dandelions
  • Sleeping bunnies show a floating zzz icon

New: Starbond System

Every tamed bunny now has its own Starbond value and Starbond level, up to Lv.10.

Starbond level affects bunny health, attack, speed, cooldowns, and personality abilities.

Starbond Level Requirements

These values are cumulative:

Level Required Starbond
Lv.1 -> Lv.2 20
Lv.2 -> Lv.3 50
Lv.3 -> Lv.4 90
Lv.4 -> Lv.5 140
Lv.5 -> Lv.6 210
Lv.6 -> Lv.7 300
Lv.7 -> Lv.8 420
Lv.8 -> Lv.9 580
Lv.9 -> Lv.10 800

Bunnies can gain Starbond through companionship, exploration, visiting new biomes or dimensions, combat, healing, and personality abilities.

If a named bunny dies and returns to the Bunny Star, recalling it will reduce its Starbond by 30. If it has less than 30, it will be reduced to 0.

New: Starbond UI

Version 1.4.0 adds two Starbond UI modes:

  • Large UI: shows detailed Starbond level, progress, status, and bunny information.
  • Small UI: shows a lighter overhead/simple display.

These can be toggled through keybinds in the controls menu.

Jade is no longer required to view core bunny information.

Bunny Types & Natural Spawning

Pet Bunny adds multiple custom bunny types. Each type has its own personality.

Bunny Type Personality Natural Spawn Biomes
White Bunny Cautious Forest, Birch Forest, Flower Forest
Black Bunny Gentle Flower Forest, Meadow
Yellow Bunny Curious Desert, Badlands variants
Small White Bunny Lucky Cherry Grove, Meadow
Yellow Gray Bunny Lazy Plains, Sunflower Plains, Meadow
Golden Bunny Aggressive Badlands variants

White Gray Bunny Weird Dark Forest, Swamp, Mangrove Swamp

Also included:

  • Spawn eggs for custom bunnies
  • A Pet Bunny creative mode tab
  • Chinese and English language support
  • Adjusted spawn probabilities for a more controlled natural spawn experience

Personality System

Each bunny personality changes how that bunny behaves.

Personality Ability
Gentle Provides Resistance aura and Saturation support
Cautious Detects nearby hostile mobs, grants Speed, shows warning icon, and marks enemies with Glowing
Curious Searches for treasure and helps with archaeology
Lucky Grants Luck and improves Curious Bunny treasure results
Lazy Helps crops and saplings grow, sleeps often, retaliates only when attacked
Brave Follows owner attack commands, gains Resistance in combat, has armor-piercing damage, and can transform at higher Starbond levels
Aggressive Actively attacks hostile mobs, grows stronger during combat, gains bonus health and speed
Weird Summons guards, calls friendly-safe lightning, and can gain a totem-like revive charge

Blue Bunnies can even transform. More animations are still in development.

Bunny Behavior and Personality Changes

Many bunny personalities have been reworked or expanded in 1.4.0.

White Bunny

At higher Starbond levels, White Bunnies can grant night-time support effects, including:

  • Speed
  • Jump Boost
  • Night Vision

Blue / Brave Bunny

Brave Bunnies have improved combat scaling and a low-health transformation ability at higher Starbond levels.

Blue Bunnies can even transform. More animations are still in development.

Weird Bunny

Weird Bunny guard summons, lightning storage, and lightning release have been reorganized.

Aggressive Bunny

Aggressive Bunnies now have improved combat growth, aggro behavior, speed scaling, and attack scaling.

Lazy Bunny

Lazy Bunny crop growth and foraging behavior have been adjusted.

Curious Bunny

Curious Bunny treasure hunting, archaeology, soft-block digging, and delivery options have been expanded.

Cautious Bunny

Cautious Bunny hostile detection, glowing markers, and night support effects have been adjusted.

Gentle and Lucky Bunnies

Gentle and Lucky Bunnies now gain clearer scaling from Starbond levels.

New: Bunny Hutch

Added bunny hutches.

A hutch can be bound to one specific bunny. A free-roaming bound bunny will enter its own hutch at night, sleep inside, and leave during the day.

After sleeping in a hutch and waking up naturally in the morning, the bunny will fully recover its health.

Commands:

/bunnyhutch bind <bunny name>
/bunnyhutch unbind

Look at a hutch when using the command.

One hutch can only bind one bunny, and only one bunny can sleep in a hutch at a time.

More hutch styles are currently being made.

bunny house

New: Bunny Toilet

Added bunny toilets in multiple wood variants.

When the urine feature is enabled, bunnies can produce bunny poop and bunny urine. Toilets can store poop and urine.

Added:

  • Bunny Poop
  • Bunny Urine
  • Bottled Bunny Urine
  • Bunny Toilets in multiple wood variants

Bunny Poop and Bottled Bunny Urine are also added to MineColonies compost-related item tags.

New: Bunny Poop Cleaner

Added a new entity: Bunny Poop Cleaner.

It uses a villager-style model, but it is not a normal villager. It will not take a profession, search for job sites, or ring bells. It only cleans bunny poop and urine.

Features:

  • Right-click to open its 32-slot backpack
  • Put shovels inside to let it clean bunny poop
  • Put glass bottles inside to let it collect bunny urine
  • Collecting urine consumes one glass bottle and produces Bottled Bunny Urine
  • Shovels lose durability naturally, unless the shovel item has no durability
  • Sleeps in beds at night and works during the day
  • Can be named, called back, and assigned a work area

Commands:

/bunnypoopcleaner area <x1> <z1> <x2> <z2>
/bunnypoopcleaner clear
/bunnypoopcleaner info
/bunnypoopcleaner call <number or name>
/bunnypoopcleaner name <number or name> <new name>

New: Bunny Backpack and Gear UI

Added bunny backpack support and a bunny gear/backpack interface.

Opening the bunny UI is now more flexible. Players can right-click a bunny even while holding items. If the held item is something meant to be used on the bunny, such as food or a backpack, the item interaction takes priority.

Bunnies can still equip armor using vanilla armor stats.

Teleport System Improvements

The bunny teleport and recall system has been improved to reduce cases where a bunny was marked as teleported but did not appear, or disappeared from the loaded list while still remaining in the teleport index.

Commands:

/bunnytp <bunny name>
/bunnytp all
/bunnyname <new name>
/bunnyremove <bunny name>

New command:

/bunnyremove <bunny name>

This permanently removes the selected bunny. It cannot be recovered with bunnytp.

Combat System

Bunnies can protect themselves and their owner depending on personality.

  • Bunnies avoid friendly fire
  • Tamed bunnies are protected from wolves, cats, and ocelots by default
  • Gentle, Cautious, Curious, Lucky, and Lazy bunnies mainly act as support or retaliate when attacked
  • Brave bunnies can follow owner attack commands
  • Brave / Blue bunnies can transform at higher Starbond levels
  • Aggressive bunnies actively attack hostile mobs
  • Weird bunnies summon guards instead of fighting directly
  • Bunnies will stop fighting and return to the owner when the owner leaves combat
  • Bunnies can wear armor using vanilla armor stats

Attack behavior and many stats can be configured with commands.

Treasure & Archaeology

Curious bunnies can search for treasure and help with archaeology.

  • Treasure pools are separated by dimension:
    • Overworld
    • Nether
    • End
  • Lucky effect can improve treasure results
  • Curious bunnies can detect suspicious sand and suspicious gravel
  • A magnifier icon appears when archaeology targets are found
  • Curious bunnies can help brush suspicious blocks
  • Treasure can be delivered to the owner or dropped in place depending on configuration

Pet Bunny is a bunny-friendly mod:

  • No rabbit meat
  • No rabbit foot
  • No bunny-related animal products in treasure, burrow loot, or bunny loot systems

Farming Support

Lazy bunnies can help nearby crops and saplings grow.

  • Crop support can be enabled or disabled
  • Lazy bunnies sleep more often
  • Lazy bunnies only retaliate when attacked
  • Crop support is limited to avoid excessive automation

Bunny Fur

Bunnies can naturally shed fur after a cooldown.

  • Players can shear bunnies with shears after enough cooldown time has passed
  • Shearing resets the bunny's next natural shedding cooldown
  • Serene Seasons support:
    • Faster shedding in summer
    • Slower shedding in winter
  • Any 3 bunny fur items in a horizontal crafting line can be crafted into 1 String

Optional Bunny Waste Features

Bunny urine and bunny poop are optional and disabled by default.

When enabled:

  • Bunnies can produce bunny urine and bunny poop over time
  • Bunny urine can be collected with a glass bottle
  • Bottled bunny urine can be poured back onto the ground
  • Bottled bunny urine can be placed into a composter and returns an empty bottle
  • Drinking bottled bunny urine gives Nausea for 10 seconds
  • Bunny poop can be placed on the ground
  • Bunny poop can be broken and collected
  • Bunny poop can be used as a bonemeal-like item
  • Sneak + right-click places bunny poop instead of using it as fertilizer
  • Bunny poop can be placed into a composter

Commands:

/petrabbit urine true
/petrabbit urine false
