About this Mod

Brittle Bedrock

Weaken bedrock with dense TNT explosions.

Content

  • Craft Dense TNT with 9 normal TNT.
Crafting Recipe: 9 TNT in Crafting Table = 1 Dense TNT
  • Place Dense TNT on bedrock to weaken it.

Technical Concept

  • The advancement is triggered when a TNT item is placed on a bedrock block, but only if the TNT item has the custom data component added by the crafting recipe.
  • Then, the advancement triggers a raycast from the player's head to determine the position of the newly placed TNT block.
  • The TNT is replaced with primed TNT with a 0-tick fuse (instant explosion), and all neighboring bedrock blocks are replaced with obsidian.
  • The raycast extends up to 5 blocks (normal placement range) in 0.1 block increments, for a maximum of 50 steps.
  • There can be instances where the raycast does not find the TNT block. For example, this can happen when the cursor is at the very edge of the Bedrock block, and the 0.1-block steps are not fine-grained enough.
  • When custom TNT is placed (not against bedrock), broken, and picked up again, it reverts to normal TNT, losing the custom data component.

Frequently Asked Questions

Brittle Bedrock server crashes on startup – what to do?

Most common cause: wrong datapack version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.21.10). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Is Brittle Bedrock compatible with datapack and fabric and forge and neoforge and quilt?

Brittle Bedrock officially supports datapack, fabric, forge, neoforge, quilt for Minecraft 1.21.10, 1.21.9, 1.21.8. Note: Forge and Fabric mods are NOT cross-compatible – pick one loader and stick with it. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.

Server lagging with Brittle Bedrock – how to optimize performance?

Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Brittle Bedrock consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
