The Cartographer's Grief
The world remembers your deaths. Grief Skulls mark every place you fell, upgrading to Obelisks after 7 in-game days. Craft Memory Shards into exploration tools and watch your Wanderlust bar fill as you discover new chunks.
About this Mod
What's new in v1.1.1
- Fixed direction arrows now pointing correctly from player to location for both Memory Orb recall and Grief Map entries. Fixed Memory Orb named label display when using a custom-named orb.
The Cartographer's Grief
The world remembers your deaths.
Every time you die, a glowing Grief Skull block is placed at your exact death location. Right-click it to read who died there and how. After 7 in-game days (168,000 ticks), it silently upgrades into a taller, brighter Obelisk — a permanent monument to that moment.
Break a Grief Skull to collect Memory Shards, the currency of this mod.
Items
Memory Shard — drops from Grief Skulls and Obelisks. Used in all crafting recipes.
Memory Orb (Memory Shard + Ender Pearl) — right-click once to save your current position. Right-click again anywhere to see the exact coordinates and distance back. Works across dimensions with a warning.
Wanderer's Compass (Compass + 4 Memory Shards) — points toward the nearest uncharted structure: villages, ruins, outposts, shipwrecks, and more. Prints the direction and distance in chat.
Wanderlust HUD
A slim bar at the top of your screen fills as you explore new chunks, up to 500 unique chunks tracked. It pulses with a soft glow when full. Persisted per world and server.
Required on both sides
This mod registers custom blocks and world data, so both client and server need it installed.
