About this Mod
This mod adds Changeling Origin - an odd creature that can change its form into creatures it kills.
"Changelings are shapeshifters that can take on the form of other creatures. As their descendant, you have inherited this ability, but activating it requires a blood sacrifice."
Abilities
- Shapeshift (toggle) - Allows you to shapeshift into the next creature you kill. If you are already shapeshifted, you will revert to your original form.
- Use Shape Ability (active) - Activates special ability of your current shape. You can check the list of shape abilities on the woodwalkers wiki.
- Lose Shape on Death - You will revert to your original form if you die.
Configuration
If you want to prevent players from shaping into some creatures, you can add them into tags/entity_types/denylist.
Creatures that are not allowed by default: Wither, Ender Dragon, and Vex.
Requirements
Warning
If you are already using woodwalkers, adding this mod is not recommended as it will make the shape-shifting mechanic available only to Changelings.

How to Install Changeling Origin on Your Server
Order Server
Order a Minecraft Java server with at least 3 GB RAM (4 GB recommended).
Set datapack Loader
In the panel under "Egg", select the datapack loader and matching Minecraft version (1.21.1).
Install Mod
Open the mod browser in the dashboard and search for "Changeling Origin". Click "Install" – done! Alternatively, upload the .jar via SFTP to the /mods folder.

Changeling Origin server crashes on startup – what to do?
Most common cause: wrong datapack version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.21.1). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.
Is Changeling Origin compatible with datapack and fabric and forge?
Changeling Origin officially supports datapack, fabric, forge for Minecraft 1.21.1, 1.21, 1.20.5. Note: Forge and Fabric mods are NOT cross-compatible – pick one loader and stick with it. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.
Server lagging with Changeling Origin – how to optimize performance?
Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Changeling Origin consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge.
