About this Mod

This project adds simple cheesemaking to Minecraft that attempts to reflect traditional cheesemaking practices without adding complex mechanics or machines.

This mod adds:

  • The Cask, a machine used to age cheese wheels
  • Cheese Curds, a light snack for impatient cheesemakers
  • Cheese Wedges, a fulfilling food made from cheese wheels
  • Rennet & Salt for turning milk into curds

Use this mod if:

  • You're interested in learning about cheesemaking through Minecraft
  • You want a simple vanilla+ food mod

Don't use this mod if:

  • You want more technical/complex cheesemaking
  • You want heavy integration with other food/tech mods

To Make Cheese:

  • Start by gathering milk from a cow, salt from crafting a water bucket, and rennet from cow stomachs (obtained by killing cows)
  • Combine those three ingredients to make cheese curds
  • If you're willing to wait, craft those curds into a fresh cheese wheel
  • This fresh cheese wheel then can be put into a cask to age
  • Going from fresh to regular cheese takes one in-game day of aging, and going from regular to aged takes seven in-game days. Cheesemaking requires patience!

Frequently Asked Questions

Cheesecraft server crashes on startup – what to do?

Most common cause: wrong fabric version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.20.6). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Is Cheesecraft compatible with fabric?

Cheesecraft officially supports fabric for Minecraft 1.20.6. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.

Server lagging with Cheesecraft – how to optimize performance?

Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Cheesecraft consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
