The Cursed Stare is a monster which you should avoid looking at. But are you able to avoid looking at it?
This mod adds a creature which spawns at night time about every 10-20 minutes. When there is a line of sight between you and the Cursed Stare, you are forced to look at it. But be aware! You may be cursed after looking at it too much.
Are you trading with villagers often? Then watch them closely, some may have been cursed...
Config
The config works by using the /gamerule command. Currently there are following config options:
- cSCurseVillager - determines if the Cursed Stare can pick a random victim which will be cursed
- configSpawnRate - Sets the spawnrate of the Cursed Stare entity (0 = never; 1 = normal; to increase the spawnrate, increase the number, same for decreasing)

How to Install Cursed Stare on Your Server
Order Server
Order a Minecraft Java server with at least 3 GB RAM (4 GB recommended).
Set forge Loader
In the panel under "Egg", select the forge loader and matching Minecraft version (1.20.1).
Install Mod
Open the mod browser in the dashboard and search for "Cursed Stare". Click "Install" – done! Alternatively, upload the .jar via SFTP to the /mods folder.

Cursed Stare server crashes on startup – what to do?
Most common cause: wrong forge version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.20.1). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.
Is Cursed Stare compatible with forge?
Cursed Stare officially supports forge for Minecraft 1.20.1. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.
Server lagging with Cursed Stare – how to optimize performance?
Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Cursed Stare consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge.
