DIfficulty Overhaul
A small Minecraft mod designed to make the game more difficult. The mod is purposefully unfair
About this Mod
⚡ Difficulty Overhaul
Difficulty Overhaul is a lightweight yet brutal server-side gameplay modification for the Fabric loader designed to transform Minecraft into a true survival challenge. By completely restructuring hostile mob behavior, progression scaling, and core mechanics, this mod eliminates passive gameplay and safe strategies.
It is purposefully designed to be unforgiving, dynamic, and unfair, offering an evolving hardcore challenge for veteran players looking to test their absolute limits.
⭐ Why Download Difficulty Overhaul?
Vanilla Minecraft often loses its survival challenge once you obtain basic iron or diamond gear. Difficulty Overhaul solves this by making the world dynamically adapt to your presence. Because it is 100% server-side, you can install it on a dedicated server to instantly upgrade the gameplay experience for your entire community without forcing players to download any custom clients or resource packs.
Key Features
- Unforgiving Death Penalty: Dying has severe consequences. Upon death, your entire inventory and equipped items are permanently deleted (no recovery, no items dropped). To make it even more challenging, you will be respawned at a completely random location in the world.
- Dynamic Playtime Scaling: The world grows more hostile the longer you survive. As your total world playtime increases, hostile mobs adapt, forcing you to continuously upgrade your strategy and gear.
- Advanced Equipment Progression: Say goodbye to simple leather-wearing zombies. As time passes, mobs spawn with significantly improved, high-tier armor, dangerous weapons, and powerful tool enchantments tailored to overwhelm late-game players.
- Overhauled Mob Statistics: Hostile entities receive substantial, dynamically scaled buffs to their core attributes, including heavily increased maximum health, faster movement speeds, longer follow ranges, and devastating attack damage.
- Core Gameplay Rebalancing: Core survival mechanics have been fine-tuned to eliminate easy safety loops, forcing active movement, precise combat, and strategic resource management.

🛠️ Installation & Requirements
To use this mod, you need to install the Fabric Loader.
- Fabric API: ⚠️ Required! Make sure to download the appropriate Fabric API version and place it into your server's or singleplayer game's
modsfolder.
⚠️ Important Server Note: Since the mod scales its difficulty based on the total world playtime, it is highly recommended to turn off your server when no one is actively playing. This prevents the timer from ticking up in an empty world and making the game impossibly hard before players even log back in!
⚙️ Compatibility
- 100% Server-Side: This mod runs entirely on the server. Clients do not need to install it. Vanilla players can connect to your server seamlessly while experiencing all the upgraded difficulty mechanics!
- Singleplayer Support: Works out-of-the-box in local singleplayer worlds. Simply drop it into your local
modsfolder with the Fabric API. - Mod Compatibility: Designed to work smoothly alongside vanilla-friendly mods, performance enhancers (like Lithium and FerriteCore), and custom terrain generation.
