Dice Crafting

About this Mod

This datapack adds usable dice to Minecraft!

Crafting Dice

Dice are very easy to craft - place a bone in a stonecutter, and select which die you want to craft. There are 6 dice values available: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, and d20.

Using Dice

Dice can be thrown by right clicking them. They will show their current value as a name above the item. When they hit the ground and stop moving, they'll rest on a final value. This value will also be whispered in chat to the person who initially rolled the die:

To roll in secret, a player can hold sneak while throwing the die. The final roll value will still be whispered to them in chat, but will not appear as a name above the item:

Dice can also be rolled by firing them from a dispenser! In this case, no roll value will be announced in chat, but the roll value will appear as a name above the item:

Dice can't be picked up from the ground while they are still rolling!

While dice are not stackable normally, you can hold up to 16 in a bundle for easier storage or transportation:

Customizing Dice

Dice Color

Dice are dyeable in the same way that leather armor is - simply craft together with dyes and mix until the desired color is obtained. For help figuring out the correct dyes to obtain the desired value, the Minecraft Wiki's Armor Color Calculator is very helpful!

To clean a die, toss it into a water cauldron. Its dye color will be removed and it will return to its default off-white bone color.

Dice Trims

There are 4 trim patterns available for dice:

Outline Trim
This trim is crafted in a smithing table using your die, any trim material, and an iron fence.
It highlights the edges of the die:

Corner Trim
This trim is crafted in a smithing table using your die, any trim material, and a flint. It highlights the corners of the die:
Blue dice with Gold Corner Trim

Creeper Trim
This trim is crafted in a smithing table using your die, any trim material, and a creeper head. It shows a creeper face on the center of the die:
White dice with Amethyst Creeper Trim

Grassy Trim
This trim is crafted in a smithing table using your die, any trim material, and a grass block. It shows a grassy design on the top half of the die:

Glint

If you want the ultimate flex for your custom die, it can be crafted with a Nether Star to gain an enchantment glint effect:

Finalization

Once you are satisfied with your die's Color and Trim, you can finalize it by crafting it with a glass block. This will lock the trim, and prevent the dye from being changed or washed off:

Frequently Asked Questions

Dyeable Dice server crashes on startup – what to do?

Most common cause: wrong datapack version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (26.2). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Dyeable Dice consumes the most tick time.
