Fading
Makes some light sources slowly burnout
About this Mod
Fading makes some light sources (listed below) slowly burnout. With the intention of encouraging
players to use different lighting techniques than covering every free surface with torches.
This mod is mainly intended to be used in conjunction with other mods to gain more lighting options,
but can also be used in plain vanilla without problems.
This is a Fabric only mod, I have no plans to port it to Forge. Fabric API is required.
It also adds 3 new flint and steel variants so that you don't
need to craft a new one for re-igniting your torches every 5 minutes.
List of affected blocks:
- Torch, Soul Torch (8-15 minutes)
- Lantern, Soul Lantern (10-28 minutes)
- Campfire, Soul Campfire (24-84 minutes)
Some aspects of this mod can be configured in the config file.

Fading server crashes on startup – what to do?
Most common cause: wrong fabric version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.18.1). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.
Is Fading compatible with fabric?
Fading officially supports fabric for Minecraft 1.18.1, 1.17, 1.16.5. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.
Server lagging with Fading – how to optimize performance?
Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Fading consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
