About this Mod
Minecraft Elytra Balancing / Debuff Mod
This mod only works on the Fabric mod loader and only needs to be installed server-side to work.
Features
- Physics adjustments, even with a lot of momentum Elytras will now lose speed quickly when flying upwards.
- Blocks like lava, fire and campfires create updrafts that will boost flyers vertically.
- The max flying speed is capped.
- Using fireworks while flying no longer has any effect. (Unless you're in creative mode.)
- Unbreaking can no longer be applied to Elytras. The default durability of 432 still allows for 7 minutes and 12 seconds of gliding time. It can still be repaired with Mending or Phantom Membranes.
- Elytra Flight is disabled in all Fluids, including Rain.
- When flying through a nether-portal-like frame of amethyst blocks players get boosted forward. This also works vertically to create takeoff stations.
Config
This mod is highly configurable. Find the config and comments about what each value means in your world folder under config/flapflap.json.
You need to run the game once to generate the config initially. After each edit to the config, a restart is required for the mod to load the new values.
Design Goals
- This is a block game. With the vanilla elytra, you can just fly above all the blocks, stopping players from making any more interesting world interactions, like building bridges and pathways between regularly used places. This mod instead highly encourages building elytra highways consisting of boost frames and heat sources for quick movement.
- Flying with elytra shouldn't be without risks. That is what makes it boring. Instead, with this mod, when it starts raining, you'll drop from the skies. This stops the game from becoming an AFK simulator when you gotta get somewhere far away.
- Elytra shouldn't stop interesting traversal challenges from being a problem. Getting up a mountain? Elytra. Getting across a ravine? Elytra. It's boring. This mod heavily limits flying upwards with elytra, forcing players to interact with the world generation and challenges around them.
