About this Mod

This Mod aims to add Useful Snails and Slugs with unique functions and abilities.

🐌 New Mobs 🐌

Snails:

  • Eat crops; can be bred with crop items (wheat, beetroot, potato, carrot) and can be tamed with bonemeal
  • Harvest crops when tamed but the owner needs to be holding a hoe with Cultivation
  • 10% chance to drop slimeballs when harvesting
  • 1/3 Chance to drop Snail Shells when killed, or guaranteed when growing up from baby to adult (similar to turtle scutes)
  • 20% to spawn a Snailet (Baby Snail) when it eats a crop
  • Can be captured and contained using Terrariums
  • Naming a snail “Tanky” turns it green with a purple shell
  • Naming a snail “Bob” turns it dark green with a dark red shell
  • Naming a snail “Gary” turns it light blue with a pink shell

Slugs & Banana Slugs:

  • Eat grass, mushrooms, and leaf litter
  • Tamed using bonemeal
  • 20% to spawn a Sluglet (Baby Slug) when it eats Grass-related Blocks
  • Destroys or Eats Grass-related Blocks
  • 5% chance to drop slimeballs when eating
  • Can be captured and contained using Terrariums

Painted Snails:

  • Spawns in Jungles and Temperate Rainforest
  • When fed flowers, drops 2–4 dyes (or 4–8 for tall flowers)

Mossy Snail:

  • Spawns in Temperate Rainforest
  • Moss-covered shells, Identical to Snails
  • Drops Mossy Snail Shells instead of Snail Shells

Apple Snails:

  • Aquatic crop-eaters (seagrass, kelp)
  • Can drop Apple Snail Shells, either by killing or growing up (similar to turtle scutes)
  • 25% to spawn a Apple Snailet (Baby Apple Snail) when it eats kelp or seagrass

Sea Bunnies:

  • Grant Water Breathing to nearby players
  • Poison attackers as defense
  • Spawn on warm/lukewarm seafloors

Magma Snails:

  • Speed up on magma, fire, lava, and Nether terrain
  • Smelt items (raw foods, ores, clay)
  • Smelting cooldown: 100 ticks normally, 50 ticks on hot or warm blocks
  • Heats the ground only when provoked
  • Shoots Fireballs
  • Spawn in Thermal Geodes

Volcanic Snails:

  • Hostile Nether predator
  • Always heats the ground around it
  • Shoots Fireballs
  • Drops Volcanic Snail Shell

Immortal Snail:

  • Summoned by right-clicking a Snail with a Totem of Undying, Grants the player valuable resources
  • Hunts the player
  • It will always stay within 30–35 blocks of the player
  • Teleports if farther away
  • Feeding an Enchanted Golden Apple makes it mortal for 60 seconds, Duration stacks
  • Kills Players even Creative Mode, and Spectator Mode
  • If Difficulty ≠ Hard:
    Killing it ends it permanently:
    Advancement: “You… Killed It…
  • If Difficulty = Hard:
    Killing it only stuns it for 5 seconds,
    The snail revives every time
    Advancement: “I Always Come Back”

Temperate Rainforest:

  • Vanilla mobs: Frogs, Wolves
  • New mobs: Snails, Slugs, Banana Slugs, Painted Snails, Mossy Snails

✨ Enchantments ✨

Cultivation (Hoe)

  • Max Lvl: 4
  • Plants crops around you in patterns (Plus, 3x3 Square, Diamond, 5×5 Square)
  • Lvl 3+ expands hoe-till radius to 3×3

Zeal (Hoe)

  • Max Lvl: 2
  • Speeds up tamed Snails/Slugs
  • Lvl 2 removes harvest cooldown entirely

Snail Shell:

  • Dropped by Snails
  • Can be laid down when crouching
  • Craft into 3 Bonemeal
  • Brew into Potion of Sluggishness
  • Slowness II + Resistance II (1 minute)
  • Trade 5 shells → 1 emerald (Farmer)
  • Wandering traders: 1 emerald → 3 shells
  • When Bonemealed, Bonemeals the blocks around it

Volcanic Snail Shell:

  • Dropped by Volcanic Snails

Mossy Snail Shell:

  • Dropped by Mossy Snails
  • Can be laid down when crouching

Apple Snail Shell:

  • Dropped by Apple Snails
  • Can be laid down when crouching
  • Craft into 3 Bonemeal

Terrarium:

  • Can be used to Capture Snails and Slugs (doesn't save Owner so it doesn't tame when released, same with names)
  • Crafted with 5 Glass, 3 Wood Slabs, and a Grass Block

Snail in a Terrarium:

  • Contains a Snail in a Terrarium
  • Can release the contained Snail by crouching then right-clicking

Slug in a Terrarium:

  • Contains a Slug in a Terrarium
  • Can release the contained Slug by crouching then right-clicking

Banana Slug in a Terrarium:

  • Contains a Banana Slug in a Terrarium
  • Can release the contained Banana Slug by crouching then right-clicking

Roasted Carrots:

  • Cooked carrots
  • Food item equivalent to baked potatoes

📦 Cut/Scrapped/Shelved Features: NOT PERMNANTLY REMOVED 📦

  • Haunt - Ghost Snail that would protect farmland.
  • Harmony - Tames nearby Snails or Slugs if holding its food item
  • Slug Mucus - No Uses

  • Volcanic Snail Shell Chestplate - Slightly weaker than Netherite, gives Fire Resistance for 15 seconds or longer (based on Turtle Helmets)

How to Install Gastropod Galore on Your Server

Order Server

Order a Minecraft Java server with at least 3 GB RAM (4 GB recommended).

Set neoforge Loader

In the panel under "Egg", select the neoforge loader and matching Minecraft version (1.21.8).

Install Mod

Open the mod browser in the dashboard and search for "Gastropod Galore". Click "Install" – done! Alternatively, upload the .jar via SFTP to the /mods folder.

Gastropod Galore server crashes on startup – what to do?
