About this Mod

Hot Potato

This mod adds a simple hot potato gamemode for you to play around with.

Installation

Make sure fabric is installed on your minecraft instance and simply add the .jar file to your mods folder.

Usage

Once installed, hop on the game and write the command "/hot-potato start" in chat to begin the game. It will pick someone at random and they become the bearer of the "hot potato." Per default, it will set a timer of 30 seconds, to amend this just write the wished time as arguments on the "/hot-potato start" command. The arguments are as follows: "/hot-potato start <minutes> <seconds> <player>". The player argument can be used if you want to force a specific player to become the hot potato.

If you want to stop the game before it ends, run the "/hot-potato stop" command. Providing "true" as an argument to the stop command pardons all doomed players.

If you leave as the bearer of the hot potato and the timer runs out, you will become doomed, this will initiate a countdown whenever you join and when that countdown runs out, you will die immediately.

Once the hot-potato right-clicks another player, the hot potato gets transfered. Hot potato transfers may be blocked by a shield but at a great cooldown.

Most common cause: wrong fabric version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.21.11). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Server lagging with Hot Potato – how to optimize performance?

Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Hot Potato consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
