About this Mod

LAN Announcer

Announces the server to the LAN using multicast UDP.

Sends an announcement packet every 1.5 seconds on both IPv4 and IPv6, similar to how the normal Minecraft client does when you "Open to LAN".

Makes the server automagically appear on all Minecraft clients on the same local network.

Really nice when making home server for LANs or for the kids.

Technical details

Every 1.5 seconds it sends the payload:

[MOTD]<server motd>[/MOTD][AD]<server listen port>[/AD]

For example:

[MOTD]A Minecraft Server[/MOTD][AD]25565[/AD]

Over UDP port 4445 to the IP addresses:

  • 224.0.2.60
  • ff75:230::60

Frequently Asked Questions

LAN Announcer server crashes on startup – what to do?

Most common cause: wrong fabric version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.20.4). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Is LAN Announcer compatible with fabric?

LAN Announcer officially supports fabric for Minecraft 1.20.4. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.

Server lagging with LAN Announcer – how to optimize performance?

Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if LAN Announcer consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
