Mercenary
A mod to encourage travel between villages and hostile places
About this Mod
Mercenary
Mercenary is a simple mod that allows you to press a keybind (by default #) whilst near villagers to get a quest for your team
the quest will either be "deliver a package to X" where that location will be a village,
or "you must deal with some rogues at X" where you will have to go to a location (Datapack configurable) that is hostile
both quests require you to place a block at/near the location specified once you have removed all hostile mobs in a
small radius, remaining mobs will be lit up with the glowing effect if they still exist
once you return to a village after completing the quest, you can claim your prize which will be 1-64 emeralds
as of 1.1.0 you can also remove quests that you cannot/don't want to do with right square bracket
you can also press left square bracket to "count" your emeralds for your team, in this case the emeralds in your main hand are removed from you, but it is added to a scoreboard (using the vanilla scoreboard system) - now you can be in competition with other people!
if you don't like keybinds, or have too many, you can also /mercenary quest|count|remove

Mercenary server crashes on startup – what to do?
Most common cause: wrong fabric version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.20.6). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.
Is Mercenary compatible with fabric?
Mercenary officially supports fabric for Minecraft 1.20.6, 1.20.5, 1.20.4. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.
Server lagging with Mercenary – how to optimize performance?
Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Mercenary consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
