About this Mod

Mortis

Mortis is a datapack that handles everything from cosmetics, to convenience, with your items after you die.

Quick start guide

Type in chat "/function mortis:gamerule/" and tab/autofill to see what the options for gamerules are.

Gamerule list

HeadDisplay:

A skull will appear where the player died. If the player died with a skull on, the skull will appear as the one the player wore. If the player didn't wear a skull when dying, the skull will resemble a skeleton skull.

ShowLastDeathCoordinates:

Tells the player in chat where they died.

SaveItemsFromVoid:

If the player takes damage in the void, they will die and keep their items. If the player is on half a heart in the void, they will die and keep their items.

ItemInvulnerability:

Items will not despawn or take damage.

ItemClumping:

All items clump together at the location of death.

ItemAntiGravity:

Disables item gravity. (best if used with the ItemClumping gamerule)

OwnerItems:

Items will not be able to be collected by anyone but the one who died with them.

/trigger commands

/trigger mortis.DeathCount:

Tells the player in chat how many times they have died.

/trigger mortis.LastDeathCoordinates:

Tells the player in chat where they last died.

Administrator features:

Exclusionary tags:

If you give any player a tag like this: "mortis.x.false" replacing the "x" with whatever gamerule you want to exclude them from in all lowercase, then that gamerule will not apply to them even if enabled.

QnA

  • Q: Can I copy/modify the code in your datapack/mod?

  • A: As long as you don't distribute the modded version, you may use any or all of my code, as long as appropriate credit is given.

  • Q: Can I use this pack on my public/private server?

  • A: Go right ahead. I do not care what you do with this on any server.

Frequently Asked Questions

Mortis server crashes on startup – what to do?

Most common cause: wrong datapack version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (26.1.2). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Is Mortis compatible with datapack and fabric and forge and neoforge and quilt?

Mortis officially supports datapack, fabric, forge, neoforge, quilt for Minecraft 26.1.2, 26.1.1, 26.1. Note: Forge and Fabric mods are NOT cross-compatible – pick one loader and stick with it. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.

Server lagging with Mortis – how to optimize performance?

Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Mortis consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
