About Opposing Force

Opposing Force is an enemy mod that focuses on adding unique, fair and challenging enemies to your world, along with a variety of miscellaneous features. A major change Opposing Force will bring to your world is the introduction of a Post-Nether and Post-End progression gate.

Certain enemies will only spawn after:

  • Entering the Nether for the first time
  • Killing the Ender Dragon for the first time

These events are per-world and one player triggering the event will trigger it for all players in a server. These progression gates can be disabled in the config, and are also data driven, so you can use a datapack to edit the post_nether and post_end tags.

Mobs in Opposing Force may spawn from worldgen features, in specific biomes, or in other specific places. You can configure the spawn height requirements for most of the mobs in the mod. The Skyvern has a special spawning mechanic, where it has a 2% chance to spawn every 30 seconds (15 seconds if it is raining), where the chance increases by 2% for every failed spawn. The chance and spawn attempts are individual per player. Another example is the Tart, which can spawn from an Infested Apple Tree, a worldgen feature. Most mobs in Opposing Force have drops, which can be crafted into tools and items or decorative blocks. In the future, we will have tooltips on these items explaining mechanics that might not be obvious. Opposing Force also adds features that do not come from mob drops. For example, Emerald Armor can be obtained from Wandering Traders.

Mod Loader and Version

This mod is currently being developed for Forge 1.20.1. No backports are planned. We will port the mod to newer versions when we feel the time is right. For 1.21.1 and beyond, the mod will use NeoForge.

Frequently Asked Questions

Opposing Force server crashes on startup – what to do?

Most common cause: wrong forge version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 4 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.20.1). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Is Opposing Force compatible with forge?

Opposing Force officially supports forge for Minecraft 1.20.1. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.

Server lagging with Opposing Force – how to optimize performance?

Recommended RAM: 6 GB (per 5 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Opposing Force consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
