About this Mod

Current features:

  • The titular (basic) player container! Contained players can either spectate whoever's holding the container or move their camera in a limited range around the container.
  • Three extra variants (two survival-obtainable, one creative-only) of the basic container that can hold three, five and infinite players respectively
  • A variant of the basic container that captures yourself when used
  • Another variant of the basic container that looks like your player model!
  • A cage block that works as a container in item form and puts the contained player inside the block when placed
  • Player essences, dropped on death
    • These will require a special weapon or item in order to obtain them future, however currently they always drop on player death.
  • Dispensers can capture and release players from containers

Please note, as the latest version is for showcasing at BlanketCon '25, certain more buggy aspects of the mod have been disabled (notably, players being captured while offline and being able to move containers between dimensions)

Also note that in order to use the mod you need to either disable the playercontainer:restrictToBooth gamerule or make an AreaLib area named playercontainer:booth!

AreaLib is currently required, but I plan to make it an optional dependency in future.

Frequently Asked Questions

Player Containers server crashes on startup – what to do?

Most common cause: wrong fabric version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.21.1). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Is Player Containers compatible with fabric?

Player Containers officially supports fabric for Minecraft 1.21.1. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.

Server lagging with Player Containers – how to optimize performance?

Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Player Containers consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
