playerviewdistance
The ability for every person to have their own render distance set by their settings.
About this Mod
PlayerViewDistance
PlayerViewDistance is a server side Fabric mod for Minecraft 26.1 that uses each player's own render distance when deciding which chunks to keep loaded and send.
Instead of forcing one global distance for everyone, the server can react to each player's requested distance and optionally apply operator overrides when needed.
What it does
- Uses each player's render distance as their effective chunk loading range
- Keeps separate per-player chunk coverage instead of relying on one shared server distance
- Supports operator overrides for individual players
- Reloads config without restarting the server
Commands
All commands use the /pvd root.
/pvd list
/pvd set <player> <distance>
/pvd reset <player>
/pvd reload
/pvd set and /pvd reset let operators force or clear a player's effective view distance.
Configuration
The config file is:
config/playerviewdistance.json
Notes
- This is a server-side mod.
- It is intended for dedicated servers.
- Players do not need the mod installed on the client.

playerviewdistance server crashes on startup – what to do?
Most common cause: wrong fabric version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (26.1). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.
Is playerviewdistance compatible with fabric?
playerviewdistance officially supports fabric for Minecraft 26.1. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.
Server lagging with playerviewdistance – how to optimize performance?
Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if playerviewdistance consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
