Population Control
Changes the mob spawning and bed mechanics.
About this Mod
This is a configurable mod that makes the following changes:
- Killing hostile mobs in a certain region reduces the number of mobs that will spawn in the future in that region.
- Mobs moving across chunks restore the mob population in that region.
- Players cannot use beds to sleep in regions with high mob population.
- Players cannot use beds to set spawn in regions with high population, unless the bed is currently exposed to sunlight.
In the Overworld, regions have vertical sections that don't affect each other. Specifically, there's one section for everything from Y=48 upwards, and 7 underground sections each 16 blocks tall. This means that killing a mob on the surface doesn't reduce the underground population and vice versa, and the same is true among different sections underground.

Population Control server crashes on startup – what to do?
Most common cause: wrong fabric version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.21.8). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.
Is Population Control compatible with fabric?
Population Control officially supports fabric for Minecraft 1.21.8. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.
Server lagging with Population Control – how to optimize performance?
Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Population Control consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
