PortForwarded is a server-side mod/plugin that allows you to securely expose your Minecraft server to the internet without opening your router's ports. With PortForwarded you can easily and securely share your server with friends and players around the world without the hassle of configuring port forwarding on your router.
Note: Your players don't need to install the mod themselves!
Installation
To install PortForwarded follow these steps
- Download the mod/plugin and place it in the 'mods/plugins' folder of your Minecraft server.
- Restart your server to load the mod.
- After the restart, a
config.ymlfile will be generated in/mods:plugins/PortForwarded/config.yml.
Configuration
Only one configuration field is present for now:
legacyFallback: true
- If set to
true,legacyFallbackwill attempt forwarding using a third-party tunneling service called Serveo. - This is a last-resort option to maximize service availability.
Make sure to save the changes to
config.ymlafter updating the fields.
Usage
Once you have PortForwarded installed and configured, start your Minecraft server as usual. The mod will automatically handle the tunneling for all set ports and securely expose your server to the internet. The domain will appear in the console, and it can be safely shared with your friends and players to connect to your Minecraft server.

How to Install PortForwarded on Your Server
Order Server
Order a Minecraft Java server with at least 3 GB RAM (4 GB recommended).
Set bukkit Loader
In the panel under "Egg", select the bukkit loader and matching Minecraft version (1.21.5).
Install Mod
Open the mod browser in the dashboard and search for "PortForwarded". Click "Install" – done! Alternatively, upload the .jar via SFTP to the /mods folder.

PortForwarded server crashes on startup – what to do?
Most common cause: wrong bukkit version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.21.5). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.
Is PortForwarded compatible with bukkit and fabric and forge and paper and purpur and spigot?
PortForwarded officially supports bukkit, fabric, forge, paper, purpur, spigot for Minecraft 1.21.5, 1.21.4, 1.21.3. Note: Forge and Fabric mods are NOT cross-compatible – pick one loader and stick with it. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.
Server lagging with PortForwarded – how to optimize performance?
Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if PortForwarded consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge.
