About this Mod

Ratchet

Ratchet is a PvP mod about magic, kinetics, and mechanical weapons.

The main focus of this mod is adding weapons that reward strong positioning, and multi-tasking. Most Ratchet weapons are built around storing energy, releasing it at the right moment, and using that stored force to change how fights play out.

Ratchet Driver

The Ratchet Driver is a balanced mechanical weapon that stores charge while blocking.

When the weapon has a stored charge, landing a hit deals bonus damage and releases a controlled shockwave around the target. This makes the Ratchet Driver useful for players who want a strong melee weapon without making it feel like pure raw damage.

The Ratchet Driver can use Obliterate, which lowers direct hit damage but greatly increases the power of the shockwave.

It can also use Overcharge, which adds two extra max charges and lets the weapon store even more energy, at the cost of backlash when pushed too far.

Overcrank Ratchet Driver

The Overcrank Ratchet Driver is a more extreme version of the Ratchet Driver.

It stores much more charge, allowing for heavier follow-up attacks and stronger charged impacts. Critical hits can also add extra stored charge after a short delay, making it stronger when used aggressively and timed well.

Charged impacts from the Overcrank Ratchet Driver can also damage armor durability.

The Overcrank Ratchet Driver can use Overcharge, which pushes the charge limit even higher for stronger stored hits.

It can also use Inversion, which reverses the shockwave and pulls enemies inward instead of launching them away.

Heavy Ratchet Driver

The Heavy Ratchet Driver is a slower and heavier Ratchet weapon built for brutal impact.

Charged strikes slam enemies downward, partially pierce armor, and create a much larger shockwave than the standard Ratchet Driver. This makes it better for heavy hits, area pressure, and punishing grouped enemies.

The Heavy Ratchet Driver can use Obliterate, which turns charged impacts into a much more destructive area blast.

It can also use Overcharge, which adds two extra max charges for even more devastating hits.

Latchet Rebounder

The Latchet Rebounder is a mechanical ranged weapon that stores up to 5 charges.

When fired, it releases stored charge as a burst of instant hitscan shots. Stored charge slowly decays over time if left unused, so the weapon is strongest when charge is built and used intentionally.

The Latchet Rebounder can use Rapid Fire, which replaces stored charge with a sustained spinning barrage that ramps up as it fires.

It can also use Railpiercer, which fires stronger shots that pierce through one block and one target.

Ratchet Indexer

The Ratchet Indexer is a utility device based around anchors and movement.

Right-clicking stores an anchor point. Sneak-right-clicking activates the device and changes what it does depending on its current mode.

In Untuned mode, the Ratchet Indexer indexes nearby living entities to the anchor.

In Tuned mode, it teleports the player to the anchor.

In Half-Tune mode, it sends nearby dropped items to the anchor.

Mechanical Tuner

The Mechanical Tuner is used with the Ratchet Indexer to swap between Untuned, Tuned, and Half-Tune modes.

When used in the offhand, the Mechanical Tuner changes how the Ratchet Indexer behaves.

A Ghast Tear sends the player to the highest safe anchor point.

Raw Iron, Raw Gold, or Raw Copper sends the player to the lowest safe anchor point.

Enchantments

Rapid Fire replaces the Latchet Rebounder’s stored charge system with a sustained automatic barrage.

This enchantment can only be applied to the Latchet Rebounder.

Railpiercer makes the Latchet Rebounder fire stronger piercing shots that pass through one block and one target.

This enchantment can only be applied to the Latchet Rebounder.

Obliterate reduces direct hit damage but heavily increases charged shockwave power.

This enchantment can be applied to the Ratchet Driver and Heavy Ratchet Driver.

Obliterate cannot be combined with Overcharge.

Overcharge adds 2 max charges to Ratchet weapons, allowing stronger stored attacks at the cost of backlash when pushed past their normal limits.

This enchantment can be applied to the Ratchet Driver, Heavy Ratchet Driver, and Overcrank Ratchet Driver.

Overcharge cannot be combined with Obliterate.

Inversion reverses the Overcrank Ratchet Driver’s shockwave so it pulls enemies inward instead of knocking them away.

This enchantment can only be applied to the Overcrank Ratchet Driver.

Materials

Ratchet Gear is a mechanical component crafted from iron and netherite scrap.

It is used in most Ratchet weapon recipes.

Latchet Barrel is a rare weapon part found in Ancient Cities and from Archaeology.

It is used to craft the Latchet Rebounder.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ratchet server crashes on startup – what to do?

Most common cause: wrong fabric version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.20.1). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Is Ratchet compatible with fabric?

Ratchet officially supports fabric for Minecraft 1.20.1. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.

Server lagging with Ratchet – how to optimize performance?

Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Ratchet consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
