About this Mod
Cave Dweller
By Valk & Naz | Inspired by Gargin
Cave Dweller is a reimagination of Gargin's iconic Cave Dweller concept, brought into Minecraft with custom behaviors, animations, and sounds. If you've ever seen his work and thought "I wish that was actually in my game", this is exactly that. We wanted to do the idea justice and make something that genuinely feels threatening to play against.
This is still in beta. We're not calling it finished and we plan to keep updating and reworking things as we go, so if something feels off or you have ideas, we're listening.
So what is it?
It's a creature that lives underground. That's the short version.
The longer version is that it's one of the most terrifying things we've managed to put into Minecraft, and we built it that way on purpose. It doesn't just walk around waiting to be killed. It watches you. It stalks you. And once it decides you've been down there long enough, it comes for you.
It won't spawn the second you step into a cave either. You have to actually spend time underground before it starts paying attention. Think of it as the cave noticing you're there. Once it does, it picks its moment and when it moves, it moves fast.
How it behaves
When it first spots you there's a brief moment where it just... stares. You'll hear a sound, and you'll know it's seen you. That's your warning. A few seconds later it's fully locked in and coming straight at you.
It doesn't care about walls. It will break through blocks to reach you. It has an insane tracking range and it will not stop chasing just because you put some stone between you and it. Your best bet is to get out of the caves entirely.
There's also a cooldown and a proximity check so it doesn't just spam on top of you over and over. Server admins can adjust the spawn rate in-game with a simple command if they want to tweak things for their server.
Requirements
This mod needs GeckoLib to run, specifically version 4.8.2 or newer for Forge 1.20.1. All the animations run through it and the mod simply won't work without it. Grab it off CurseForge or Modrinth, make sure it's the Forge 1.20.1 version, and you're good.
What's next
Like we said, this is beta. The core of what we wanted is in there but we've got a lot more planned. More behaviors, more sounds, more things to make the underground feel genuinely threatening. We'll keep pushing updates as we go.
Thanks for checking it out. Hope it scares you.
