💎 What is RelicEx: Director’s Cut?

RelicEx: Director’s Cut is a modern port and expansion of the original RelicEx, rebuilt to integrate cleanly with the PlayerEx: Director’s Cut ecosystem and Trinkets.

It adds RPG-style relics, potions, and progression items that drop from mobs and loot chests, granting randomized attribute bonuses powered by PlayerEx. Every relic has a rarity, weighted stats, and dimension-aware drop settings, all fully configurable.

If you like:

  • ARPG-style loot (Diablo, Path of Exile vibes)
  • progression tied into PlayerEx stats and skills
  • and configurable, modpack-friendly systems…

…this mod is built for that.

⚙️ Dependencies

Check the “Relations / Dependencies” tab for exact versions – this is just a quick overview.

Required:

  • PlayerEx: Director’s Cut – attribute & progression system this mod hooks into
  • Data Attributes (Director’s Cut version) – used for attribute handling
  • Trinkets – for equipping relics in special slots
  • Fabric (and/or Quilt) for 1.20.1
  • Mod Menu + Cloth/Auto Config – in-game config screen for drop chances and settings

🧿 Relics & Items

Core Relics

Relics roll 1–5 random PlayerEx attributes, with values and rarities weighted by config.

Item Slot(s) Source Effect
Helmet Relic Helmet / Head Trinket Chests & Monsters 1–5 randomized attribute bonuses when equipped
Chestplate Relic Chest / Body Trinket Chests & Monsters 1–5 randomized attribute bonuses when equipped
Amulet Relic Necklace Chests & Monsters 1–5 randomized attribute bonuses when equipped
Ring Relic Ring / Offhand Ring Chests & Monsters 1–5 randomized attribute bonuses when equipped

Relics use a rarity system:

Common → Uncommon → Rare → Epic → Mythical → Legendary → Immortal

Rarity is influenced by:

  • number of rolled attributes
  • strength of each roll
  • attribute-specific weights

Higher rarity ≙ more and/or stronger bonuses.

Progression & Utility Items

Item Slot Source Effect
Relic Shard Smelting relics Consume to gain Experience Orbs. Great for recycling bad rolls.
Tome Chests & Mobs Consumed on use to grant a free PlayerEx level.
Lesser Orb of Regret Chests & Mobs Refunds 1 skill point into your PlayerEx refund pool.
Greater Orb of Regret Chests & Mobs Refunds all skill points into your PlayerEx refund pool.
Dragon Stone Ender Dragon Hard reset for your character: resets attributes, PlayerEx level, and all skill points. Requires a double right-click to confirm.
Small Health Potion Monsters Heals 2 hearts immediately when picked up.
Medium Health Potion Monsters Heals 3 hearts immediately when picked up.
Large Health Potion Monsters Heals 4 hearts immediately when picked up.

Health potions cannot be stored – they trigger the moment they’re picked up. No hoarding, just clutch heals.

📦 Loot, Drops & Rarity

Relics and other items are injected into:

  • Any mob that is an instance of Monster
  • Any loot table of type chests/ (dungeons, structures, etc.)
  • The Ender Dragon specifically for the Dragon Stone

Drop chances and item selection are managed via weighted distributions, with additional logic to:

  • Choose dimension-appropriate relics (Overworld / Nether / End)
  • Apply dimension-level multipliers for drop rate and rarity
  • Include or exclude specific relics per dimension via config/weights

All of this is fully configurable.

🛠️ Configuration

RelicEx: Director’s Cut is built to be modpack-friendly:

  • Global & per-dimension settings

    • Control how often relics can drop in each dimension.
    • Adjust rarity distribution per dimension (e.g., more Epics in the End).
  • Rarity weights

    • Tweak how likely Common vs. Immortal relics are.
    • Configure attribute weightings (what rolls more often).
  • Mob & chest drop rates

    • Separate sliders for:
      • “drop is a relic”
      • “drop is an orb”
      • “drop is a potion”
      • etc.
  • Safety features

    • Dragon Stone requires two uses (double right-click) to confirm the reset.
    • Orbs of Regret respect existing PlayerEx refund logic.

Configuration is handled through AutoConfig (with Mod Menu integration if present), plus weight JSONs for finer tuning.

🎭 Armor Relics & Visuals

  • Armor Relics are implemented as actual armor pieces with relic stats baked in.
  • They:
    • Integrate with armor attribute calculation (armor, toughness, etc.)
    • Can be visually distinguished (custom model/renderer)

🔄 Integration & Compatibility

  • Built specifically for PlayerEx: Director’s Cut and Data Attributes DC
  • Uses Trinkets for equippable relic slots
  • Plays nicely with:
    • other attribute-driven mods
    • most loot-injecting mods (Custom Structures, Dungeons, etc.)
    • packs that heavily tweak PlayerEx balancing

If you’re making an RPG pack, RelicEx can be used as:

  • a core loot system, or
  • a side progression layer on top of your existing gear.

❓ FAQ

Q: Is this the same as the original RelicEx?
A: This is a port + rework tailored for PlayerEx: Director’s Cut and its attribute system. The core idea is the same (relics with randomized bonuses), but internals and integrations are updated for the DC ecosystem.

Q: Can I change how strong relics are?
A: Yes. Both the drop chances and the rarity/attribute weights are configurable. You can make relics extremely rare and powerful, or common and mild.

Q: Is this safe for existing worlds?
A: Generally yes, but:

  • Adding it to an existing world will start injecting relics into future loot and mob kills.
  • Removing it will invalidate its items/attributes. For modpacks, plan it as a long-term system, not a temporary add-on.
