About this Mod
RetroRig: Oil
RetroRig: Oil brings back the feeling of classic BuildCraft oil for modern Minecraft, but pushes it further into a full oil-processing and power-generation loop.
Find hidden crude reservoirs, survey them, pump them out, refine the fractions, crack them into better fuels, and feed a huge animated Combustion Engine that can compete with large generator mods like Big Reactors.
This is not just a nostalgia mod. The goal is to make oil feel like an actual industrial chain: field work, pipes, water supply, refining tiers, byproducts, flares, asphalt roads, petroleum coke, and high-output engine rooms.
Features
- Oil fields, desert seeps, and ocean gushers
- Survey Scanner for locating and reading crude reservoirs
- Pumpjack multiblock with animated drill pipe and optional chunkloading
- Basic Refinery for early crude-to-heavy-oil processing
- Distillation Column multiblock for Heavy Oil, Light Oil, and Petroleum
- Cracking Unit for upgrading oil fractions with heat, water, and charcoal
- Water Pump for early engine cooling
- Flare Stack for burning off backed-up fluids
- Asphalt roads made from Heavy Oil
- Petroleum Coke as a long-burning furnace fuel
- Tiered Iron, Gold, and Diamond frames for better machines
- Large animated Combustion Engine for serious FE generation
Combustion Engine
The Combustion Engine is the centerpiece of the mod. Build the multiblock, place the rotor, supply oil fuel and cooling water, then watch it spin up into a reactor-scale power source.
Heavy Oil works as an early power loop, Light Oil improves output, and optimized Petroleum engines with Diamond frames are built to be a serious late-game FE option.
Transport
RetroRig: Pipes is strongly recommended for moving fluids around your oil field. Freight Pipes are especially useful for transporting oil through unloaded chunks from remote pumpjacks.
Other fluid transport mods, including Mekanism, should also work where they support normal fluid transfer.
Getting Started
Craft the in-game Field Manual for the full guide. It covers oil field searching, scanner readings, pumpjack setup, refining heights, cracking recipes, engine fuel tiers, cooling, flares, asphalt, and troubleshooting.
Basic loop:
- Find oil with the Survey Scanner
- Build a Pumpjack over the source
- Refine crude into Heavy Oil
- Burn oil in a Combustion Engine for FE
- Scale into distillation, cracking, Petroleum, and Diamond-tier engines
RetroRig
RetroRig: Oil is part of the RetroRig mod suite: modern NeoForge machines inspired by the old quarry-era automation mods, rebuilt with new mechanics instead of one-to-one remakes.
