About this Mod

wiki

ShieldGrid is a NeoForge mod that adds placeable energy shield grid blocks to Minecraft. These blocks create protective shield areas around them, helping defend bases, machines, ships, and moving contraptions from outside threats.

The mod includes multiple shield tiers with different protection sizes and energy capacities, such as 9x9x9, 22x22x22, and 32x32x32 shield areas. Shields can block or bounce incoming projectiles like arrows, tridents, potions, ender pearls, ghast fireballs, and other thrown objects. They can also reduce or block outside explosions such as TNT and creepers, as long as the explosion comes from outside the protected area.

9x9x9

ShieldGrid uses an energy-based durability system. Every blocked threat consumes energy depending on its strength. If a shield avoids damage for a short time, it begins regenerating energy. If its energy reaches zero, the shield temporarily shuts down and recharges after a cooldown.

The mod also adds a Shield Battery, which can be placed next to a shield to increase its maximum energy. Shields can be disabled with redstone without losing their stored energy, making them useful for controlled defensive systems.

Shield Battery

ShieldGrid includes visual effects, impact sounds, shield tooltips, energy display text, spyglass overlay effects, and different shield states based on remaining energy. Elytra users can still pass through the barrier, but high-speed entry damages them.

Optional compatibility is included for Create Aeronautics / Sable, allowing shield areas to follow supported physics-based contraptions in real time. ShieldGrid also supports Create Big Cannons, making cannon shots bounce off the shield instead of simply disappearing.

Frequently Asked Questions

ShieldGrid server crashes on startup – what to do?

Most common cause: wrong neoforge version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.21.1). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Is ShieldGrid compatible with neoforge?

ShieldGrid officially supports neoforge for Minecraft 1.21.1. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.

Server lagging with ShieldGrid – how to optimize performance?

Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if ShieldGrid consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
