About this Mod

Solid Ground is a lightweight, immersive gameplay overhaul for Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge that fundamentally changes how you interact with the world. Inspired by the survival mechanics of games like Valheim and TerraFirmaCraft, this mod moves away from "instant-strip-mining" and encourages a slower, more deliberate approach to resource gathering.

⚒️ Core Features

  • Mining Fatigue (Exhaustion): Breaking blocks adds physical strain. As you mine "heavy" blocks (Stone, Deepslate, etc.), your fatigue builds up, gradually slowing your mining speed. Stop to catch your breath, and your fatigue will naturally decay.
  • 📉 Depth-Based Scaling: The deeper you go, the "denser" the world feels. Mining speed is dynamically scaled based on your Y-level. Surface stone is manageable, Deepslate is tough, and stone near Bedrock is incredibly stubborn.
  • 🏡 Builder-Friendly Bypass: Building should be fun, not a chore. Any block placed by a player is automatically recognized by the mod and is exempt from all fatigue and depth penalties.
  • ⚙️ Fully Configurable: Fine-tune every aspect! Customize which blocks are affected, how fast fatigue builds/decays, and the exact hardness scaling for different depths via a simple config file.

🤝 Compatibility

Solid Ground is designed to be the backbone of immersive modpacks and should have no incompatibilites.

  • Universal World Gen Support - Whether you use Terralith, Dungeon Crawl, or any other generation mod, Solid Ground will adapt. Simply add any custom stone variants or geological blocks to the config whitelist to ensure they are recognized by Solid Ground.
  • Create - Encourages the use of mechanical drills
  • Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks - Makes mining spells a valuable asset
  • Chunky - Fully compatible with pre-generated worlds
  • Tetra - Since the fatigue and depth mechanics are block-bound, any tool from any mod will be affected as intended.

🚀 Why use Solid Ground?

In vanilla Minecraft, the ground does not feel solid, making mining a mindless task. Solid Ground changes the early game to favor caving over strip-mining. In the late game, it makes machinery (like Create drills) and explosives feel like meaningful upgrades rather than just luxuries. It turns the ground beneath your feet into a solid, formidable part of the world.

⚠️ Note on Development & Support

This mod was created primarily for my own personal modpacks and to fit my specific vision of Minecraft survival. As such, please be aware that this project is not under active development. While I am happy to share it with the community, I will not be taking feature requests or providing regular support. I may update the mod to newer Minecraft versions in the future if I find myself needing it for a new project, but there is no guaranteed schedule for updates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Solid Ground server crashes on startup – what to do?

Most common cause: wrong forge version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 4 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.20.1). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Is Solid Ground compatible with forge?

Solid Ground officially supports forge for Minecraft 1.20.1. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.

Server lagging with Solid Ground – how to optimize performance?

Recommended RAM: 6 GB (per 5 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Solid Ground consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
