I recommend installing Jei or a similar mod to view crafting, but you can read the lore and crafting recipes on the wiki(still a WIP)

you can learn the lore of this mod while playing the game by reading descriptions of items, achievements and such when exploring the world, but if you want to know the story right now, I'll summarize it briefly.
