Welcome to Starless. This mod adds a few entities for player to interact with, mainly friendly ones, but sometimes neutral and aggressive. I don't position this mod as horror, you won't find much of scary stuff here, nor this mod actually tries to be scary, but occasionally, under right setting, it can be a bit spooky.
This mod mainly exists to fill the gap in horror mods with absolute lack of friendly/neutral entities that you can interact with and who can assist you instead of wishing you harm.
Currently this mod adds:
- 6 entities, 3 of them are friendly (1 is craftable post-Ender dragon), 1 neutral, 1 neutral/hostile and 1 hostile. One of the entities is able to give you free items upon spawning.
- About 9 minor random events that occur in your world.
- Chat interactions with one of the entities.
- 1 post-Ender Dragon weapon and 1 food item.
- Block that you can interact with once a day to get a message from one random entity.
The mod is not invasive and none of entities can destroy blocks or grief your base.
It is recommended you stay on the surface for the 1st full day cycle (20 minutes) because of two specific friendly entities spawning on that day. But don't worry - if you miss them, they will spawn another day.
You're free to play it with any horror mod, it should work fine and time skips/sleeping doesn't mess with mod's spawn/event system. Entities from the mod only spawn in Overworld as for now.

Starless server crashes on startup – what to do?
Most common cause: wrong forge version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.21.1). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.
Is Starless compatible with forge and neoforge?
Starless officially supports forge, neoforge for Minecraft 1.21.1, 1.20.1. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.
Server lagging with Starless – how to optimize performance?
Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Starless consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
