About this Mod
StepUpBlocks
StepUpBlocks is a configurable Fabric Minecraft mod that lets you step up full blocks like stairs or slabs.
It does so by increasing a player's stepHeight value.
(Of course, if stepHeight is already higher than specified via config, the mod does not lower it)
Installation
Requires Minecraft 1.20.1, Fabric Loader >=0.14.25, Fabric API and Cloth Config API.
Configuration
The mod can be configured from within the file ".minecraft/config/stepupblocks.json5" or using modmenu.
This mod can be configured to:
- Not allow stepping up a block while sneaking
- Not allow stepping up a block while "swimming" (or just being forced into swimming)
- Not allow stepping up a block if a special, configurable key, is not currently held
- You can disable the mod in-game
- You can specify the maximum step height

StepUpBlocks server crashes on startup – what to do?
Most common cause: wrong fabric version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.20.1). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.
Is StepUpBlocks compatible with fabric?
StepUpBlocks officially supports fabric for Minecraft 1.20.1. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.
Server lagging with StepUpBlocks – how to optimize performance?
Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if StepUpBlocks consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
