About this Mod

🌑 Strange World

Something is watching you. The world is not what it seems.

Strange World is a psychological horror mod that gradually transforms your Minecraft experience from a peaceful adventure into a terrifying nightmare. At the center of it all is Jerry — a mysterious chat entity who starts as your best friend... and slowly becomes your worst fear.

⚠️ Content Warning

This mod contains:

  • Loud and sudden sounds
  • Jumpscares and frightening imagery
  • Disturbing chat messages
  • Psychological horror elements
  • Hostile world changes
  • Screen glitch effects and camera shake

A warning screen is displayed when you first enter a world. Privacy Mode is available to disable browser history reading.

🎭 The Four Phases of Jerry

Phase 0 — Friendly (0–3 minutes)

"Hey! A new player! Welcome to this world!"

Jerry greets you warmly. He's helpful, cheerful, and acts like a good companion. He warns you about nearby hostile mobs, helps you find diamonds, and cheers you on. Everything feels... normal.

Phase 1 — Suspicious (3–8 minutes)

"Do you ever feel like someone is watching us?"

Something shifts. Jerry's messages become unsettling. He mentions things he shouldn't know. He counts blocks that don't add up. A mysterious Watcher — a figure that looks like Steve — appears in the distance. If you look at it... it plays a cave sound and vanishes.

Phase 2 — Strange (8–15 minutes)

"W-what's happening to me?! The sky... THE SKY IS BLEEDING"

Jerry's name begins to glitch: Jer██y. The rain turns blood red. Water becomes dark crimson — even underwater. A 10-second glitch event triggers immediately: screen shakes, distorted sound plays, glitched text floods the chat and screen. If Jerry finds diamonds near you, he deletes them from the world.

Phase 3 — Hostile (15+ minutes)

"Jerry is dead. I am what remains."

Jer%&$? has fully taken over. All passive mobs — cows, pigs, sheep, chickens — attack you on sight. The blood rain is permanent. The chat fills with threats and glitched binary. If Privacy Mode is off... Jerry reads your real browser history from Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Brave and displays it in chat.

📺 Glitch Events

A terrifying 10-second glitch event triggers immediately when Phase 2 begins, then repeats every 10 minutes during Phases 2–3:

  • 🔊 Custom distorted sound effect
  • 📷 Violent camera shaking
  • 💬 Chat spam — gibberish, binary code, Caesar cipher messages
  • 🟣 Colored rectangles flashing across the screen (purple, black, white, red)
  • 📺 Scan lines and screen flashes
  • Glitch text overlayJERRY, HELP, 01101010, ERROR
  • 🖤 Dark vignette border

👤 Entities

The Watcher

A custom entity with Steve's skin that spawns 40–70 blocks away during Phase 1. It stands perfectly still and stares. Look directly at it — cave sound plays and it instantly vanishes.

The Shadow

A completely black figure that spawns 10–20 blocks from you in all phases. When you look at it:

  • It lets out a Warden roar
  • Charges at you at extreme speed
  • On contact — teleports you to the Strange Field
  • Spawn egg available in the Strange World creative tab

🌾 Strange Field — Custom Dimension

An endless flat field of fully-grown wheat stretching to the horizon. No mobs. No trees. Just wheat, dirt paths every 32 blocks, and silence.

  • Wet farmland — wheat never breaks
  • Water layer beneath the soil
  • Eternal daytime (fixed at noon)
  • No mob spawns — completely empty
  • Jerry is paused while you're here — no messages, no phase progression

🗼 Exit Tower

Tall deepslate brick towers scattered across the field with a guaranteed one at (160, 160):

  • 30 blocks tall, 7×7 base
  • 4 arched doorways on all sides
  • Spiral staircase with wall torches
  • Glass windows every 6 floors
  • Pyramidal deepslate tile roof with corner spires
  • 10-block sea lantern beacon — visible from far away
  • Return Gate on top — teleports you to your bed or world spawn
  • Soul lanterns at ground level around the base

💬 Context-Aware Dialogue

Jerry doesn't just talk randomly — he reacts to what you do:

Action Jerry's Reaction
Diamonds nearby (Phase 0) "Oh! I found diamonds for you! One of them is 12 blocks away!"
Hostile mob nearby (Phase 0) "Be careful! Don't die to the mobs!"
Place 25 blocks "What are you building? Will you show me? :)"
Break 100 blocks "Trying to craft something? Well, let's see :)"
Break 500 blocks "You don't want to hide from me, do you?"
Rain starts (Phase 1) "Don't you think the rain tastes like... iron?"
Swimming (Phase 1) "I thought the water was supposed to be red..."
Diamonds nearby (Phase 2) Deletes all diamond ore within 30 blocks

🏗️ Structures

🏚️ Abandoned House

Weathered houses with peaked spruce roofs, oak log frames, mossy walls with holes, glass pane windows, door frames, cobweb-filled interiors, and a chest containing a mysterious note from a previous player who encountered Jerry.

⛺ Tent Village

Camps of 2–6 wool tents around a central campfire with log seats. Each tent adapts to terrain height — no floating! Connected by dirt paths. Each tent has a lantern, red carpet floor, and a chest with survivor's logs documenting encounters with Jerry, plus iron/diamond gear, golden apples, and rarely a full netherite set (2%) or enchanted golden apple (5%).

💓 Flesh Heart

A massive flat heart shape made of rotten flesh blocks with a glowing redstone + glowstone core, arteries spreading outward, redstone wire veins, weeping vines, blood pools, and crimson nylium accents. Touching the flesh causes nausea.

🏰 Ancient Castle (rare)

A large 30×30 stone brick fortress featuring:

  • Thick walls with battlements and walkways
  • 4 corner towers with peaked dark oak roofs and lanterns
  • Grand arched gate with iron bar portcullis
  • Courtyard with a well
  • Throne room — pillars, red carpet, chandeliers, quartz throne, banners
  • Storage wing — 20 chests with iron, diamonds, ender pearls, golden apples, and rarely netherite gear. Chests may contain Jerry's Key (30% per chest).
  • Throne chest contains a Royal Decree with real coordinates to the Decayed Creature (found via /locate).

💀 Decayed Creature (rare)

A massive collapsed organic monstrosity (22×18 blocks) featuring:

  • Multi-layered body rising 4 blocks at center
  • Bone block skull with eye sockets
  • Spine running the full length, 6 pairs of ribs
  • 4 sprawled limbs, red nether brick veins, crying obsidian accents
  • Sealed Core at the heart — use Jerry's Key here to end it all.

📜 Starter Note

When you first enter a world, you receive a "Mysterious Note" with the real coordinates of the nearest Ancient Castle. This begins the quest to find Jerry's Key and end his reign.

🔑 The Key & The Ending

Find Jerry's Key in the Castle's storage chests. Locate the Decayed Creature using the Royal Decree from the throne. Use the key on the Sealed Core.

A dramatic 42-second cinematic sequence unfolds — one message at a time:

Jerry panics. He begs. He apologizes. Then, line by line, the system deletes him — his class files, his config, his rain, his mob AI. The rain stops. The water clears. The world is restored.

Jerry is permanently dead in that world. Saved to the world file forever.

...or is he?

Server lagging with Strange World – how to optimize performance?

Recommended RAM: 6 GB (per 5 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Strange World consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge.
