Survival Asterisk
Configurable tweaks to make survival more difficult including random respawns and reduced natural regeneration.
About this Mod
This mod makes three (configurable/toggleable) major changes to the game.
Whenever you die, you respawn at a random location in the overworld at y=300 with night vision and slow falling. This allows you to survey your new environment and choose where to land. This is especially valuable in modpacks where you may wind up respawning in a hostile or instant-death scenario.
Instead of healing by eating, you passively regenerate at a rate of 1 HP (half of a heart) per 3 second. This slows to 1 per 5 seconds if your hunger is below half. It is entirely cancelled if you have 0 hunger. This means you have to think about your strategy and use potions and other consumables if you want to be involved in a prolonged fight rather than just stuffing your face with golden carrots. This also means that you can survive taking a few hits even if you don't have much food/don't want to waste food each time you get hurt.
No matter how much armor you have, if a hit deals at least 4 damage originally (this value can be configured) it will deal at least 1 damage. This means that you can't become essentially invincible with late game armor or when stacking protective effects from other mods. You will still be pretty tough to kill, especially since you won't have to stop and eat to heal, but your adventures will always have at least a little risk.
