About this Mod
Note: This mod is no longer being updated. The development files are kaput, and I never made backups.
This mod is designed for full compatibility with the Better Combat mod, so make sure to install that for the intended experience.
What is Beyond the Horizon?
Beyond the Horizon is a mod that aims to make progression as deep as it is wide, or make it more complex. The idea is to add more uses for things that don't exactly have much depth and go beyond their horizons. I'm not sorry for the pun.
But why?
I think that Minecraft's progression could use a bit of spice. How it works now is fine, but it could be a lot better! By adding customization, it turns progression from a small oak tree to a big oak tree (please excuse the corny example). Also, I've just had a ton of ideas sitting in a note file for months now, and I've had nothing to do with them, so I'm making this.
What does it add?
My goal, at least for now, is 10 new tool/weapon classes, 3 new resources, 5 new biomes, and a new wood set. As of 0.8.3, the mod has:
Spoiler
- Daggers, faster, yet weaker swords.
- Triple Swords are much slower but much stronger swords.
- Paxels, multi-tools combining Pickaxes, Axes, and Shovels.
- Battleaxes, axes that can cut down entire trees.
- Tool Expansion Upgrade Templates, which let you craft upgraded tools.
- Copper tools are slower/weaker, yet much more durable than Iron tools.
- Bottle o' Cloud, which lets you launch yourself upwards.
- Moomoss, a cute cow that looks like moss.
- The Temperate Forest is full of Maple trees.
- Calcite Caves are full of white rocks.
- Prairies have a ton of wide-open land.
- Muddy Highlands have a ton of packed mud.
- Maple wood is a yellow wood set found in the Temperate Forest.
- Sunberries can make some surprisingly nutritious juice.
- Flint tools are great for the early game.
- Bark can be used to reapply stripped bark to wood.
- Eyes of Ender are WAY harder to make now, good luck!

Beyond the Horizon server crashes on startup – what to do?
Most common cause: wrong neoforge version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.21.4). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.
Is Beyond the Horizon compatible with neoforge?
Beyond the Horizon officially supports neoforge for Minecraft 1.21.4, 1.21.1. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.
Server lagging with Beyond the Horizon – how to optimize performance?
Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Beyond the Horizon consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
