About this Mod
Core Features:
Unlock to Craft:
- Enchantments are locked by default and can only be crafted once they have been unlocked through gameplay.
Grimoire Tracking:
- Unlocked enchantments are stored in a special Grimoire, which provides essential details such as crafting recipes and effects.
- Grimoires automatically update per player. When shared, a Grimoire instantly syncs with the recipient’s current unlocks.
Tiered Enchanting System:
- Enchantments are divided into tiers, each requiring specific conditions to craft, using the Helminth—a specialized crafting station.
Soul Swapping System:
- Players can use "souls" to modify the enchantments on their items:
- Removing Enchantments: Unwanted enchantments can be removed.
- Swapping Enchantments: Existing enchantments can be swapped with others the player has unlocked.
- Applying Enchantments: Apply specific enchantments using the Helminth with fixed recipes, ensuring precise customization rather than random outcomes.
- Players can use "souls" to modify the enchantments on their items:
Multiplayer Compatibility:
- Player progress, including unlocked enchantments and customizations, is stored using UUID-based storage, ensuring smooth gameplay across multiplayer servers.
Additional Features:
New Custom Particle Effects:
- Bleeding Edge Particle: A unique bleeding slash effect triggered by specific enchantments, like Bleeding Edge.
New Enchantments:
- Shadow Step: Grants invisibility while sprinting.
- Golden Skin: Replaces the last two hearts with golden ones that never perish and instantly regenerate.
- Resonance: Links hit entities together, causing chain damage when any linked entity is struck.
- Seismic Wave: Creates a destructive wave upon smash-hitting an entity, lifting blocks and dealing dismantling damage to any entity within it.
- Potion Master: Randomly applies either a positive or negative potion effect when attacking.
- Witherborn: Applies the Wither effect when sneaking, triggers an explosion near the nearest entity affected by Wither, clears all Wither effects from nearby entities, and also applies Wither to the player.
- Flashlight: Grants night vision and darkness effects when entering a dark area.
- Bleeding Edge: An enchantment exclusive to netherite hoes that significantly damages the user but deals increased area-of-effect damage to victims.
- Auto-Scaffold: Automatically places scaffolding blocks when sneak-jumping.
Essences & Cosmetic Effects:
- Essence Collection: Collect various essences, like those from the Void, Cherry Trees, Dragon, Gold, Amethyst, Water, Lava, End, Emerald, and Netherite. These can be used to unlock cosmetic enhancements, such as unique arrow trails and particle effects when walking or hitting entities.
Configuration Options:
Villager Trades for Enchantments (Default: Off):
- Toggle villager trading for enchantments.
- Command:
scoreboard players set #villager_trades_enchants helminth 1
Enchanting Table Functionality (Default: Off):
- Toggle the functionality of the enchanting table.
- Command:
scoreboard players set #ench_table_works helminth 1
Item Breakage During Soul Swapping (Default: On):
- Toggle the possibility of items breaking while using the Soul Swapping system.
- Command:
scoreboard players set #item_can_break helminth 0
Mending Removal:
- Removes the functionality of the Mending enchantment from the game, making it impossible to use for repairing items.

How to Install The Helminth on Your Server
Order Server
Order a Minecraft Java server with at least 3 GB RAM (4 GB recommended).
Set datapack Loader
In the panel under "Egg", select the datapack loader and matching Minecraft version (1.21.2-pre5).
Install Mod
Open the mod browser in the dashboard and search for "The Helminth". Click "Install" – done! Alternatively, upload the .jar via SFTP to the /mods folder.

The Helminth server crashes on startup – what to do?
Most common cause: wrong datapack version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. The Helminth officially supports datapack, fabric, forge, neoforge, quilt for Minecraft 1.21.2-pre5, 1.21.1, 1.21. Note: Forge and Fabric mods are NOT cross-compatible – pick one loader and stick with it. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.
Server lagging with The Helminth – how to optimize performance?
Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if The Helminth consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge.
