About this Mod
Turn ordinary loot into mysterious Unidentified Items—then reveal their true form with Identify Scrolls.
What it does
- Unidentified loot: Items from loot tables can drop in an unidentified state.
- Identify Scrolls: Use a scroll on an unidentified item (drag & drop in inventory) to restore its original tier and name.
- Fully configurable: Choose exactly which items (or tags) can roll as unidentified, and set the chance.
Configuration
Edit the mod’s JSON config to:
- enable/disable the feature
- set the unidentified chance
- list specific item IDs or tags that are eligible
Getting Identify Scrolls
The Identify Scroll does not ship with a recipe or loot table yet—add your own recipe/loot table/datapack to distribute it in your pack.

How to Install Unidentified Items on Your Server
Order Server
Order a Minecraft Java server with at least 3 GB RAM (4 GB recommended).
Set fabric Loader
In the panel under "Egg", select the fabric loader and matching Minecraft version (1.21.1).
Install Mod
Open the mod browser in the dashboard and search for "Unidentified Items". Click "Install" – done! Alternatively, upload the .jar via SFTP to the /mods folder.

Unidentified Items server crashes on startup – what to do?
Most common cause: wrong fabric version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.21.1). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.
Is Unidentified Items compatible with fabric?

Server lagging with Unidentified Items – how to optimize performance?
Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Unidentified Items consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge.
