About this Mod

Village Bounties is a lightweight bounty mod / village quest mod that adds bounty board structures to villages, giving you simple, immersive quests to pick up while exploring your world.

Find a board, take a job, hunt mobs, deliver items, earn rewards, and bring a little more purpose to every village you visit.

It is designed to feel vanilla-friendly, modpack-friendly, and useful for adventure, RPG, exploration, and vanilla+ Minecraft worlds.

Features

Village bounty boards: Find bounty boards in villages and use them to pick up local tasks.

Two bounty types: Complete kill bounties for vanilla overworld mobs or delivery bounties for attainable vanilla items.

Per-player progress: Active bounties are tracked per player, so each player can work on their own job.

Difficulty variety: Boards can offer easy, medium, hard, and elite bounties with different target amounts and rewards.

HUD tracking: A compact HUD addition helps track your active bounty while you play.

Village-friendly worldgen: Bounty boards and structures are designed to fit into villages without overwhelming or replacing existing village structures.

Easy Config: Allows changing of bounty reward, reward amounts, and more, even in-game! Great for modpack authors who want to fine-tune the experience.

Lightweight quest / bounty system: Village bounties are simple, easy to follow, and fit the current village economy structure.

How It Works

Find a bounty board in a village, choose a bounty, and complete the task.

Bounties can ask you to hunt vanilla mobs or deliver items for villagers. Your active bounty is tracked per player, and the HUD tracker helps you keep an eye on your progress while you play.

Once the job is done, return to any bounty board to turn it in, claim your rewards, and pick up another bounty.

Bounties refresh after you complete a job. Completing a bounty also gives you one manual refresh, which you can use to reroll the board.

FAQ

Do I need NeoForge?

Yes. Village Bounties is built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1, currently updating for 1.21.4+

Does this need to be installed on both client and server?

Yes. Install it on both sides for multiplayer.

Is it vanilla-friendly?

Yes! Village Bounties only adds 1 block, while the bounties and structures are built around vanilla mobs, items, and village-style placement.

Where do I find bounty boards?

Look in villages. Boards generate inside village-friendly structures designed to fit naturally into village areas.

Can I use this in a modpack?

Yes! Feel free to include it in your modpack.

Is this a beta?

Yes. Balance, bounty variety, and village board placement may still be adjusted as the mod improves.

Does it need any dependencies?

Nope! Just download it, put it in your .minecraft\mods folder, and play.

Is Village Bounties a questbook mod?

No. Village Bounties does not add a full questbook system. It adds simple bounty board quests found in villages.

Known Issues

  • Bounty board structures can occasionally spawn far from the village center.
  • On rare occasions, the incorrect bounty board structure may spawn (desert structure in savanna village, etc.)
  • Some bounties may still need variety and balance tuning.
  • Bounty board structures may not always spawn in modded biomes.
  • Tiny villages (4 buildings or less) do not spawn bounty boards. (Not a bug- There aren't enough villagers for a bounty board! They don't have the economy!)
