Weighted Armor
Gives a slight hint of nerf to Minecraft Armor System by adding tiny amounts of movement speed reduction.
About this Mod
⚔️ Weighted Armor
Armor should feel like armor.
In vanilla Minecraft, wearing a full suit of Netherite feels no different from walking around naked — movement speed, attack speed, all the same. Weighted Armor fixes that by giving each armor tier a small but meaningful physical presence, without turning the game into a slog.
What It Does
Every armor piece now applies realistic trade-offs based on its material weight. Heavier armor slows you down and reduces your attack speed slightly. In exchange, higher-tier armor rewards you with bonus max health.
Chainmail gets a dedicated rework too — it's meant to be light and mobile, so it actually buffs your attack speed instead of penalizing it.

Design Philosophy
The penalties are intentionally subtle. It's about making your armor feel different. A leather-geared player should feel more nimble than a fully-plated one, and the trade-off between mobility and protection should be a real choice, not just a gear score. A netherite full
Chainmail being the odd one out is also intentional. In Vanilla Minecraft, chainmail armor can only be gotten from a mob drop, making it quite rare. Hence why we give it a little attack speed buff and the most smallest debuff for balancing purposes. I mean hey, chainmail in real life is far more lighter than a full iron plate armor, yeah?
Compatibility
- Minecraft: 1.21.11 - 26.2
- Works with: Survival, SMP servers, most other datapacks
- Does not touch: Items, loot tables, advancements, or world generation
Installation
- Download
Weighted_Armor.zip - Place it in your world's
datapacks/folder - In-game, run
/reload - You'll see a confirmation message in chat
Uninstalling
Important: Before removing the datapack, run this command in-game:
/function armor_weight:uninstall
This removes all active attribute modifiers from every player. If you skip this step and players are wearing armor at the time, the speed/health modifiers will stick until they relog.
Known Limitations
- Modifiers apply per tick and are recalculated every tick, so there is minimal performance overhead on large servers with many players (maybe there's a way to make this more efficient soon)
