About this Mod

window-to-reality

Simple mod to modify the Minecraft window to allow transparency. Made for video creators and map makers for when a chromakey is not enough.

Fabric API is optional.

Features

Makes the Minecraft game window support transparency.
Adds four utility blocks with different breakable/passthrough combinations:
- cutout - breakable, solid
- cutout_barrier - unbreakable, solid
- cutout_window - breakable, passthrough
- cutout_void - unbreakable, passthrough

Version Support

Active updates are primarily done for the latest version and latest x.1.y
Older versions may receive releases and updates if requested or contributed through community pull requests.

No additional content features are currently planned. NeoForge support not planned.

Compatibility

Tested and works on: Windows, Linux Wayland (XWayland doesn't work - use -DMC_DEBUG_ENABLED -DMC_DEBUG_PREFER_WAYLAND JVM args)
No guarantee that mod custom screenshotting or rendering will work.

How to Install Window to Reality on Your Server

Order Server

Order a Minecraft Java server with at least 3 GB RAM (4 GB recommended).

Set fabric Loader

In the panel under "Egg", select the fabric loader and matching Minecraft version (26.2-rc-2).

Install Mod

Open the mod browser in the dashboard and search for "Window to Reality". Click "Install" – done! Alternatively, upload the .jar via SFTP to the /mods folder.

Window to Reality server crashes on startup – what to do?

Most common cause: wrong fabric version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (26.2-rc-2). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Is Window to Reality compatible with fabric?

Window to Reality officially supports fabric for Minecraft 26.2-rc-2, 26.2-rc-1, 26.2-pre-6. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.

Server lagging with Window to Reality – how to optimize performance?

Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Window to Reality consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge.
